EVE Online could hit the jackpot with console clients?

Modern consoles do have USB ports for mouse and keyboards, and they also have large harddrives. There isn't any technological issue that prevents playing EVE on console. TV's are the same than we use as screens in PC's and macs.

Graphics would have to be tuned down a bit, but that shouldn't be really that big of a deal since it's basically just settings profile issue.

Pros would be absolutely massive potential playerbase, millions of Playstation and Xbox and perhaps even Nintendo owners around the world. And before anyone yells that only kids play consoles, you couldn't be more wrong.

The key issue that you missed in, regards to console gamers, is the instant gratification mindset. Console gamers log in expecting instant combat. Can you imagine one sitting around for half an hour waiting for a fleet to form, or for that matter, roaming around low sec for an hour looking for a 1v1 fight? Eve requires a different mindset, which I'm not sure can be made to correspond to console gamers.

Wut?!

You never player Ghost Recon, right?
You sit on a stone looking through the scope of your sniper rifle and watching for hours for an enemy to come by.

I actually have several friends who would play Eve if it went to the consoles. However, would console players be willing to pay the £15 a month to play? I dont own a console so I dont know if that kind of payment for games exists on them.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

Make the port to console just the PI interface and reduce the cost to £5 a month! Console uses are renowned for loving endless clicking so it's a win win situation. We could use them as PI pets.

It does. You pay around 50€ for xboxlive per year. There is also marketplace stuff for additional content und such.

I think not very many people want to pay another 15 bucks for the game each month... I am not sure, but the only Game I know that tried that was a final fantasy mmo.. but I do not know if it still exists.

Please stop playing video games.

I always though the PI interface should have been made for as a Facebook style game, micro-transactions work well there. The only issue is getting the product from the planet to the market.

Either Facebook or on the Ipad. Both would work great for PI game play but horrible for actually getting product to market.

a PS3 or Xbox 360 would melt under a 1000v1000 fleet fight, if you are a PC gamer/tech and you play on an Xbox or PS3...you can see that half the games barely run at 25-30fps.

An xbox/ps3 can be compared to a amd 4800+ cpu, 7800GT graphics card, 1gb ddr2, whatever hdd size you want.

There is no way in hell, eve, will ever run on this machine smoothly on low graphics.

By the time you get the "next gen" console release they will be 5 years behind PC hardware again and eve will be even more advanced graphics and cpu intensive

Please please please bring in the console crowd. They rage on a completely different level than PC gamers. I'd love to see the typical console-only gamer dropped in Eve for a month.

XBox isn't possible. Microsoft throw all kinds of problems at you, if you want to do things like hook everyone up to the same servers. Then there's the inability to have free upgrades. Hence why Dust isn't on the Xbox.

I was actually thinking about this subject for the past couple of weeks. I think with the link up that is being created through DUST and the introduction of the NeX Store that it might not be too far from CCP's mind. I don't think they will get very many subscribers through a console but it would be a good option. Microsoft will never let it happen but Sony might given the right circumstances and pay structure. I think EvE would go F2P before any of this happened though.

I think it would be a cool idea though.

I think I have a solution, remove combative NPC's from the game altogether and create a 'console mini-EVE' where they play the faction spawns! Strangely enough, although meant to be quite flippant, it could be quite interesting as it would remove a lot of the elements of Eve that aren't really console compatible (on various levels) and focus purely on a controlled environment for PVP.

Playing EVE on a television would mean sitting on your knees a feet away from the television trying to read all the bloody small text.

EVE F2P, cool? WTH is wrong with you. Have you even considered the implications? and you spent 2 weeks thinking about it...

Edit - Ok ok to be fair why don't you tell me whats cool about a F2P EVE first.
