decloaking not working reliably anymore

i realized recently CCP broke something again,
decloaking doesnt work anymore if the ship goes into cloak shortly before you approach it into decloak range.

happened twice to me recently, burned toward a ship after it jumped into my gate and cloaked then, I saw the distance clearly < 2000m as the overview entry got greyed out, I also went straight through it (saw the ship model disappearing in front of me!) but I havent decloaked it.

Someone else having trouble decloaking after the patch?
I'm actually a pro decloaker but such sh*t incredibly p*sses me off!!

This was most likely due to latency issues. Not going to write long about it, but a lot of things in game are "cheated" when it comes to the full server round trip by using early client side notifications (things that aren't actually confirmed yet server side, but show as such).

When it comes to a few things (you decloaking someone, for example), a full client->server; enemy's client->server; checks+calculations->both clients-roundtrip cannot be circumvented (you cannot have your client guesstimate being successfully cloaked or not) and the real latency WILL be put in play. This latency is not just the time it takes for your client to send a single package, bouncing off the server (aka "ping"), but a LOT higher (some of the calculations are far from instant and the check time "resolution" server side isn't infinately high, but discrete).

This means that all in game functions where client-server-other player's states will always be at the mercy of a latency far longer than the "ping" - often in the timerange of second(s). This is a fact and cannot be circumvented such as many other "non critical" game functions where the client makes compromises to reduce the sensation of "lag". People who think server side confirmed actions happens at "ping" speed are greately mislead. There are several ways to prove this to oneself and there is no magic involved.

tl;dr - the other ship wasn't where your client showed you it was and there is nothing ccp can do about it without reducing ONE of the players' (yours or your ememy's) illusion of a lag free game to rubbles. You (and I and all playing) have to live with this. It only shows much in discrete situations - where we normally "don't want it", but that's the very nature of the problem and it cannot be circumvented.

your explanation of server mechanics is all nice but useless and nothing new to me.
my point was this crap never happened to me in 3,5 years of eve and twice in the last week after the patch,
so chances are very good that CCP ****** up someting regarding those mechanics.

No, it's probably random luck. If you could consistently reproduce the problem, then yes it's a bug.

Also, it's possible that your internet service provider has shifted something in the last 2 weeks, creating more lag on your end. I would suggest more research and testing before you cry foul on ccps part, especially since this has been the only conplaint regarding this issue posted. (if others experienced this, the forums would be flooded with complaints.)

Well imo.... as an experienced tackle/decloaker...

adapt and overcome - read the direction of your target and adapt accordingly.. latency and all taken into consideration

Aok out
fly safe and good luck
