While the majority of our players can enjoy the new EVE Launcher, a small number of our players experience serious issues preventing them from updating and logging into our beloved EVE Online. To resolve this situation our EVE Launcher team went into overdrive, investigated and isolated issues, found reproduction steps and developed solutions

Workarounds explained to fix the current most prominent issues together with the near future of the EVE Launcher, read it all in this joint devblog from CCP Unifex and CCP Cascade.

Interesting. NOD32 didn't interfere with my installation at all. It seems to be only Smart Security with its firewall that will do this.

I have also had issues with the launcher. The launcher says that the patch has failed but the game has no issues once I reload the game.

The Launcher uses HTTP to transfer files and no bits.

Earlier today I was in contact with their technical support who mentioned that the Application protocol content filtering acts differently on different computers and OS versions. So it is possible that some have issues and some others don't.

If you are experiencing issues downloading the full installers then this is not related to the Launcher but rather our Content Delivery Network (CDN). There is a thread here with replies from CCP Major Gormur which you should follow. A petition filed under technical with your ISP name, IP address, what country and major city you live close to, would be helpful.

This sounds suspiciously similar to some of the corruption issues we have gotten reported to us. Our patching mechanic will loop around and retry many times to finally get through to completion. It would be helpful if you would send us a log in a bug report, this way we can confirm what is happening. You can find the log in the EVE\launcher\cache folder the file is called launcher.log.

The apology for screwing up so badly should have been made earlier in the dev blog. Someone should coach you guys on how to deal with the public.

Using this thread to offer a suggestion:

Make the option to only show the launcher when necessary default to true. I understand that the dev team wants to have its hard work on display but it's an extra hop which isn't necessary until we get the ability to login directly via the launcher...

For multi account users this launcher is atrocious.

To launch my three clients I used to just click my three shortcuts (so each clients starts with their own settings)
and login.

Now I have to start my first client wait for patching, wich is slower than ever before, click the play button wait 30 seconds
And repeat two times but since thankfully symlinked folders aren't broken and work as intended Im spared having to patch up again.

And this is the best case scenario where the launcher doesn't break itself.

Seriously was this thing written by a group of highschool kids on a work program or something?

Agreed. Of course if there was a setting to make the launcher start the desired number of clients automatically, that would be a big improvement.

CCP. Laucher is great but I have 1 concern about it.

do we need a laucher to start if the client is up to date or already running? really?

Consider this.

I start eve.. Launcher runs...patches/whateva... awesome. great perfect. what a great solution

I start eve for my second(->nth) Client. Fails because I have to use that launcher.

Would it be easier to do either process..

start eve.exe -> check to see if 1 client is running. if not, spawn the launcher. if so, spawn the eve client.

or.

if client is upto date. just spawn a client.. maybe give us an option for this...

I love the clent. But getting the "Multiple instances of the Launcher cannot be run from the same directory. This instance will now close." is annoying when you have already patched and up to date with 4 clients already running.. at this point the eve launcher is buried in the 100 programs running and its easier just to start eve from your quick launch.

just saying..

ps.... is there a switch that you could give us that just spawns the client with out running the launcher?

A perfect example of good comunication.
CCP learn from this.

Give us the option of the number of threads being used to download the patch so we can actualy brows the internet while we wait.
having so many threads hogs the connection.

I'll happily stick my neck out and say that the launcher at least in my experience is a great thing. Could maybe have down without the cyrilic issue at launch but other then that it works very well and it even looks kind of nice...

I am very much looking forward to the faster patches and the many small fixes and updates that are awaiting us in the, hopefully, near future.

There was quite a debate within the team what options we should go with as default. The default options we went with was to show the Launcher every time you started and make it stay after you click Play.

Why?

If we would have gone with the “Only display the Launcher window when there is an update” players who wanted to have it stay would have had one time (per patch) to find the settings window and the many other useful options that are in there. We thought that this would be a too shy approach and actually not show off the feature and get people used to it.

The other option which is called “Close the EVE Launcher after starting the EVE Online” was heavily debated internally. We chose to go with having it stay open after launch so that users would be able to start multiple clients more easily.

In the end we thought that the settings would be quite individual and is better set by the user and If there was any strong feedback in any direction we would be able to change it easily with the next release. We also wrote up an evelopedia page on the Launcher to make sure that people were aware that they could tweak the settings as they wish, you can find that here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_Launcher

This option is already in there. Have a look at the settings menu, you get to it by clicking the small spanner and screwdriver icon. Check out the startup tab and the documentation on the settings here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_Launcher

I'm happy to say that this is also already in there. Follow the same steps as above and check out the "Download" tab. You can also decide how much bandwidth you would like to give it.

That woulld be why i didnt find it.
In the origional screenshots it has "settings" top right.
I just thought that the options were taken away from us.
it needs to be made more obvious.
