Is all of nul sec taken and offlimits to roamers?

Hi there,

I recently joined a small highsec corp to get some money together. They needed a dessie pilot to help take out frigates in l4s. Its a lot of fun for someone like me who is new to the game. Getting used to fleet actions even in the environment of PVE is still quite fun.

Anyway i asked another corp member wether, at my new age, it would be fun/profitable to head into nulsec for a bit and see what was about. He told me that it would be fun but that as far as he knew all of nul was NBSI.

If this is the case can anyone point me at a corp that i could sign up to in nul that actively takes new players or maybe even and alliance down there that would be interested in maybe setting something up with the corp im in :)

Not sure if this is the best place to put this, but i am a new player :) so it made sence to put it here in the first instance.

Take care out there
Sysal.

A lone pilot, unaffiliated, will be shot at by just about everyone they come across.

Your options are to basically avoid them (this can be done with a bit of know-how) or to become affiliated with them (join a corp recruiting).

Of these, joining a nullsec corp who welcome new players will solve both, as they will teach you the first.

Outside of Goonswarm / TEST not many 0.0 alliances/corps will recruit brand new players (and these only hire from their source communities), but some will. There's a section of this forum for recruitment, I would suggest posting a wanted ad there :)

Certainly "learning the ropes" in highsec then making the move to 0.0 after a small number of months is the more typical route, but I'm not here to discourage anyone from trying it as a new player :)

Your very limited ship skills would make the PVE content in highsec more applicable at the moment, but you don't need more than a frigate to start PVP anywhere.

There are some NRDS areas, like Providence. However, NBSI roamers still run through there unimpeded most times.

0.0 is not "closed" to small gang roams. It's far more dangerous than lowsec, yes, especially for those without experience, but if you are in a corp with people who know their way around you should be fine.

Most 0.0 alliances are very specific about requirements needed to join them, be it a number of skill points, being able to fly a certain ship, etc. This helps them ensure member quality and reduce spies at thesame time. There are a couple of them who accept anyone, though: TEST Alliance and Goonswarm. You could try joining one of them.

There are also lowsec/hisec corps who go on regular roams into nullsec. One example is Eve University. You could also look into joining them.

Just have fun, and welcome to Eve!

Providence hasn't been NRDS for a long time now.
In fact, I can think of no place where NRDS is actually enforced these days.

CVA still live out there and are NRDS ... but yeah, that's a fickle arrangement to try to really use to your advantage.

You should absolutely head out into 0.0. But be smart about it. If you want to do it solo (and this is quite doable), then you start out by buying a bunch of disposable fast scouting ships. Assuming you can't fly a covops ship, then a fast Frigate like a Vigil or a Rifter, with 1-2 warp core stabilisers, nanofibrees, an MWD and a prototype cloak works well (put some small polycarb rigs on them too if you're feeling flash).

Use your disposable ships to scout about, investigate, make bookmarks and learn the lay of the land, so to speak. Find which 0.0 enterence points are dangerous, which are less well guarded, where the quiet areas are, where the busy alliance HQs are, how to escape dictor camps, how to scan out hostiles, how to safe up, and so on.

Consider basing from NPC 0.0 - there even a few surprisingly decent trade hubs out there. Check out Curse, Venal, Syndicate, Pure Blind. It can be well worth getting a few ammo BPCs into NPC 0.0 - rat loot can be turned into minerals to make ammo to kill more rats with, and ammo always sells at a good markup too.

Watch local, check the map, take a few chances, make bookmarks, and finally...Good luck

Providence (or rather, the people running it) like to pretend it's NRDS. Some of us like to prove them wrong. Pirate

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this bit isn't actually true.

They have very loose recruitment. The main corps (Dreddit and Goonwaffe respectively) only accept you if you're a member of Reddit or SomethingAwful.

However, this restriction can be bypassed if you get a recommendation from someone in the corp, and it doesn't apply to the other corps in TEST/Goonswarm.

CVA is NRDS....

However, their list of reds is longer than the Encyclopedia Britanica...
They also might shoot you for flying minmatar for RP reasons.....

Movement in nullsec is occassionally hindered by gate camps. They use bubbles/bubblers (hics/dics) to make it very difficult to traverse. If you wish to venture into nullsec, make sure you read up on mobile warp disruptors and general bubble mechanics. Without bookmarks, travel can be difficult, but with bookmarks (which you make), travel becomes fairly easy. The more traveled a system, the more likely it is to have a gate camp, and hi-sec entrances to nullsec usually have gate camps, especially during peak times.

Gate camps are "primarily" on the entrance gates into people's territory. Once you are a few systems deep, travel is mostly unhindered (although by no means 100%). In NPC nullsec, this is much less the case, but in sov nullsec people typically only camp the "entrances" to their territory. The drawback, is you wont be able to dock in Sov Nullsec (Player controlled stations can deny docking priveledges, and typically do to all non-blues).

Have fun exploring....

I can definitely recommend Providence for a corp getting started in nullsec. I strongly recommend you talk to one of their diplomats first; you shouldn't be shot on sight, but it always pays to be set blue just in case. You can find their diplomats in CVA-DIPLO (when they're awake) and since your corp isn't KOS, there's no reason they shouldn't blue you if you ask.

If you stick around they might even give you access to their intel channel, which increases your odds of survival immensely.

It should be noted that you have to do just a bit more than simply pay your 10 dollars. I mean, paying your 10 dollars IS a requirement to join Goonswarm - but you actually have to convince them that you didn't join Something Awful just so you can join Goonswarm. From what I hear they have no reservations about scamming noobs from Something Awful.

Basically, they have to like you before they will recruit you. Goons aren't exactly desperate for members either so they can afford to be picky.

Without support from corp/alliance it can be very difficult for a new person to start living in null.

There's also NPC 0.0

Which, if you look at some of it, is pretty empty\quiet.
That means either everyone down there's superbestfriends or out.

Either way, makes a nice place to stage from to roam into other parts of 0.0

The ability of nullsec dwellers to keep you from roaming in their space is only as good as their level of vigilance.

Some will be good at it, report you in their intel channels and quickly sortie to destroy the interlopers. Some will not care or they'll be isk-farmers who just dock up when you pass through. Some will be asleep because you are in their space when it's crazy-o'clock in their dominant timezone.

And some areas of nullsec will be nominally claimed but nobody actually lives there except tumbleweeds.

I now have this picture in my mind of humongous space weeds floating by in total silence...

Which makes me think: if this is a hard sci-fi setting, why do we hear the pew pew?

Should we turn off our sound to be more realistic?
