v3.8 of the MMOData charts is live and since I am playing EVE again, I wanted to share it with you Cool

MMOData.net tracks subscriptions, active accounts and peak concurrent users.
CCP is the most consistent and dedicated provider of metrics amongst the MMORPG companies, and all of the EVE numbers come directly from them.

EVE Online is represented in following 2 charts :
Subscriptions and Active Accounts with a peak between 150k and 1m
Peak Concurrent Users on the largest Shards ( single game worlds )

I recently added EVE Online Global and China AA ( Active Accounts ), this includes the Global server Tranquility, the China server Serenity and the trial accounts. This in addition to the EVE Online Global SS ( Subscriptions ) which only covers Subscriptions on the Tranquility server, and is of course the more important metric.

I've been waiting oh so patiently for this latest release on multiple game platforms.

Rift - Knew the numbers were dropping pretty steadily when I left. Looks like they lost almost 200k in the last 6 months

Eve - as I suspected, we're out of the pothole after Incarna and once again climbing. Had some idiot try to tell me that mmodata was invalid because of the 'age' of the last report.

SWTOR - Even though I have absolutely no interest in this game, I am compelled to see the numbers for population and I genuinely amazed that it's at 1.5 mil right now. I thought for sure we would see more of a drop than that.

Thanks for the update, it's good to see factual numbers rather than hyperbole hearsay.

Interesting numbers, I wonder why Second Life is so popular.

As a general building platform, its the easiest to work with. Even now, you can build anything you want with the tools given to you in the viewer (with no major external tools - maybe Paint or similar for textures, or you can acquire them from others who specialize in that); I did this semi-regularly during my early days there (2004-2007/8, with the occasional login even now).

Eve is not the real competitor to SL; other 'world' systems like Blue Mars, Active Worlds, There.com (its back, sorta), IMVU (arguable), and the open-source based replicas of SL are its true competition. Also, its essentially FTP for the 'average' person, which is why the data points now reflect 'Active Accounts' instead of subscriptions.

@CyberGh0st - thanks for linking Tateru's post in your comments blog, even though I spent two hours pouring over her site. P From the comments on her post, I think Wayfinder is pretty close regarding LL's intentions. I'm also somewhat dismayed about how many sims have disappeared recently. Have not tried a login to one of the alternative grids in ages though, so I assume their quality is much better than before.

Actually you're correct. Lol

SL's original core concepts are (were?) around the idea of having a place where communities can gather - any community - and make a space they can call their own.

I was involved in some of those, but was not interested in the 'kink' groups. Most of my own time was spent promoting a comeback attempt for Uru, though I later followed some interesting activities that sprang up, like sailing and golf. Good times...
