how to use probe and scanner to find a POS?

okay, so were trying to probe out a pos.. we have found the hulks all parked with the raraqual and the orca and stuff, but when we put probes out to look for structures all we get is cosmig signatures and NPC dens or w.e... how can we find the POS structures and stuff?

You need to use a expanded probe launcher with combat probes, this will show structures/ships

Its sound like you using "core" probes

otherwise you might have a "filter" on your results to only show ships and or other stuff.

You could do it the old fashoined way and as most people park a POS by a planet or a moon use DSCAN to check for the likely area and qarp to the planets and the moons that the DSCAN shows you the POS might be.

Obviously make sure your overview has POS's enabled on view or untick the "use overview settings" to show everything.

How find POS from a system ? A quick and dirty guide

A) Hit cloak (so you don't die by accident)

B) Right click on space -> planets xx --> moon yy starting from planet 1 moon 1 do this until all moons are done in the system

C) Profit ! You have now scanned though every possible POS in the solar system.

Or simply put a POS in your scan settings then scan with combat scanners and presto but if you already had that much trouble of even finding a POS from a system I suggest you start reading about POSes from here before you do anything stupid.

You don't even need probes.
POS can only be put up at moons.
Make an overview tab 'stuff'
Make an overview filter showing only POS Stuff. Make sure planets are visible on screen.
Select stuff tab
Put filter on stuff tab
Fly to each planet.
Use directional scanner (which every ship has) at low range 1 AU max and 360 scan.
No towers ? Goto next planet
towers ? One of the moons has the tower.
More advanced, use 30 degree angle to scan each planet from a distance. Note that the planet may be out of range of your scanner.
Use http://www.unitconversion.org/length/kilometers-to-astronomical-units-conversion.html to covert km to AU and back.
You can even determine which moon has the POS by decreasing the range compared to moon distance.
