Well so many here says everything works like a charm. Then someone can tell me how to fix my installation on MAC OSX.
I never had a problem before, but this last patch screwed everything.
Now starting the Eve Online app, gives this message from OSX:
"You can't open the application EVE Online because it may be damaged or incomplete."
and there is no info on the site to how to get out of this mess on the EVE website.
If somebody knows where, please tell me.

It is NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY of a customer to make a program work

Companies that think the opposite are out of business very soon.

Telling me that i should fix it myself because i am an IT professional or "well it works fine on my machine, so you are stupid" is really a blatant display of a low IQ.

In your case I would download the whole game again after deleting all of EVE's stuff from you application folder and from /users/ ~ /library/ApplicationSupport/EVE Online

Edit: oh in case your library is hidden type this in terminal and hit enter:

$ chflags nohidden ~/Library

You guys are so dumb.

Lets say my programmers release a new version of our website that works flawlessly on a MAC with safari but does not work on a PC with windows XP and a IE8 browser.
What you guys are saying is that i should then ask all my customers to download a different browser otherwise they can not use my website.

Maybe you should just refrain from your dumb and insulting comments and let grown up people solve this.

While I agree with this post to an extent I also disagree.. So here is my rant on this subject

Being the CEO / CTO of a "large internet company" is of no consequence when it comes to the goings on in eve. The problem here is not what you do for a living, it's what you can't do in practice... I agree that calling an issue such as this "operator error". is false and has been the stance of CCP and most of it's player base for far too long

The loader is great in theory and idea. However, it does fail in execution. If it were 1 localized exception of it not working, then things might be a bit different but there are many people that have been having issues getting it to run at all. This is not due to themselves as users, or even the type of machine you are running on..

There just wasn't enough testing done on this, and if there was I didn't know about it until it came out and I had to spend 4 hours figuring it out in order to make it work for me - on 2 different computers and 12 different eve installations (8 on 1 and 4 on the other). But, it ended up working and I got in game and was able to begin my skill training again..

Now I didn't actually want to post about the loader in this rant because that's not the driving force behind me logging in to post at all. The reason for me posting is the whole "CEO/CTO" thing that the OP holds so near and dear

Being a CEO doesn't mean that you understand anything about code or anything of the sort. Being a CTO doesn't even mean that (yes I know what CTO is supposed to know).. "Large Internet Company" could be anything. You could be the CEO of amazon.com, but that doesn't mean that you know anything about software development.

Hell, you could be the CEO of blizzard entertainment, but that doesn't mean you know anything about the software development methods that CCP uses. In the software development game, there are multiple ways of going about doing the same thing.. Sometimes CCP excels, and sometimes they fail horribly sure... But it still doesn't mean that they need to be bombarded by useless posts on the forums such as this one..

I think that the real purpose behind the OP, wasn't to degrade CCP or the loader for not working -- but just another immature little boy trying to raise the e-peen flag. At least that's what it seems like to me. So if i'm feeding into it, my apologies. But really man, no one gives a **** if you're CEO of microsoft or other large company - it doesn't matter and isn't a term that exudes knowledge. Anyone can be a CEO, even a CEO of a successful company. It literally means nothing when it comes to this game..

I myself am a CEO, I don't claim to the best or the smartest there ever was -- nor do I even begin to grasp the understanding of "Software Development" to the level that CCP has shown us. My company merely does web development, it's new - its small... But me being CEO doesn't mean jack **** here.

If you are truely CEO and think that you / your team can do better -- then do it.. Simple as that... We have EVE now it's your turn to shut the **** up about your supposed 'social status' and bring out the game: ADAM (yes it's a biblical reference - no im not religious just thought it'd be funny to being able to respond to the question "what game do you play?" - "oh i play ADAM & EVE"

So until you actually go through the physical steps that CCP has gone through over the past few years, putting out a piece of software to the extent that CCP has done it over the years.. Or having to deal with whiny bitches like yourselves and half of the forums every time something doesn't work (me included sometimes) claiming to know how to do it better.. Then shut the **** up already..

CCP does a damn good job at what they do. Sure they are misguided plenty, but the end result is a good product that I for one am happy to pay for.. So give them credit where credit is due, instead of trying to belittle them constantly pointing out every single flaw in 1000's of posts on the forums... CCP has put out one hell of a game, so thanks CCP... And even though I had issues with the loader and spent 4 hours trying to figure out how to make it work -- i like the idea of it..

enjoy.

I agree totally with the main theme of this thread !

This Update is a SCANDAL !

The various CCP ass-licking comments from chars are most of them comments from small people who need the forums to feel
superior where they are failures in real life ...who have nothing else to do ..than playing EVE .. we who have been around ..do know those types !

Regarding my experience :
3 days ago i did a total re-install of a fresh CCP Client on my completely cleaned computer

It did take the usual time BUT worked excellently and EVE has never run better on my PCs

Now ... after the update and a myriad of actions ..both those suggested by CCP and then finally a total removal of whatever EVE related i could find on my PC .. followed by an attempt of again installing a fresh new complete EVE Client ....

the files appear to have downloaded.. BUT ... my computer has crashed and wont even start normally

Just a message : Reboot Your computer or Remove a Boot disk ( which isnt there ) comes on the screen

I now have to Spam the F8 tab every time i try to open my PC ... until I get the BIOS reprogrammed
so it goes to the correct primary hard disk for Booting up

So not only can I not play EVE which I pay for... BUT ..also the EVE installation process threatens to destroy my
Computer files and has ..me unknowingly ..manipulated with basic settings of my computer .. with the risk for me
to loose valuable data from real Life ... n not only ..the inconsequential IN- abiity to play EVE .

On top of that considering the ENOURMOUS TIME and FRUSTRATION being spent to make a PHANTASY GAME work
a game in which one has spent far too much time and mioney over the years out of affection for the game
... I for my part will seriously reconsider ..if EVE Online really is worth wasting so much valuable time on as is necesary .
REAL LIFE IS SHORT in contradiciton to the ILLUSION of ETERNITY within EVE !

Finally a sane response.

Me stating the work that i do has nothing to do with arrogance, which is hard to believe for most of the people here, judging your reactions.

I just know how hard it is to keep a difficult technical system up and running and how much effort should be invested in testing stuff. Not testing stuff has costed my company dearly in the past as well.

ucntkilme also had to spend 4 hours to get his stuff working again. The whole point is that it is extremely strange that you release software that causes these kind of bugs to happen in the first place.

Getting the client back up and running will probably work eventually with changing a whole load of setting and reinstalling the program myself too.

It is just very strange that these things happen in the first place, thats why CCP, in my opinion, should get its act together and rethink the way the work.

I run WIN7 64bit and have had no issues so far.

My only complaint is that the launcher remains active after launch taking up resources.

Reporting no problems whatsoever. I'd go as far as to say this has been the best patch for me for ages. Didn't even feck up my overview.

*EDIT* Didn't notice we were posting how important we are. History Degree dropout. Managed to do it properly. Shame on you IT guy.

You're sure it's not just your computer there's something wrong with? I haven't had a single problem yet, Except it claimed to have failed at installing the patch after downloading it, but it still worked with the patch installed. And I have it installed on 4 different machines. 1 laptop, 3 desktop-PCs, no problems except that wrong "Install Completed"-message.

I agree, it can be infuriating to deal with for sure. But to create a post on the forums about it isn't going to do anything about it. It's better to keep a level head, look at the issues and errors it gives you and see if CCP has already created a fix for it (in my case, it was running the repair.exe 12 times - tedious but it fixed it).

CCP does a great job with the game, and I for one want to thank them for everything they've done to better the game - and belittle them for everything they've done to destroy the game(in my opinion - such as WiS)... But I don't do it openly in a forum, because it's not constructive - and does nothing to further my cause for the future enjoyment of eve.

Plenty of people have had issues with this patch, there is no denying that... So in that respect I do agree that there should have been more testing either internally on every possible computer configuration (that'd be a metric ****-ton of computers).. or some other way of testing it (was it ever on the test server? I don't know as I don't use the test server)... But there are more intelligent ways about venting about the issues you're having with the patch -- plus the creation of new threads per person who experiences the same issue only further perpetuates the issue because who wants to read 10,000 posts that pretty much say 'it doesnt work, you suck CCP'

Instead, perhaps a solution to this issue would be a smart-forum that CCP could implement... Instead of having everything in the general discussion board of the forums -- perhaps add-in a "Latest Patch Discussion" that is available on patch day and perhaps only open for 12-18 hours...

Each new topic is gone through (using code - REGEX more than likely) and determines if it is a duplicate -- if it is -- it adds the new topic as a response to the previous topic. If it's not, it allows the creation of the current topic... This would cut down on the amount of threads that effectively say the same thing -- and all the information is in 1 spot for other people to read and/or ignore...

Then for the General Discussion - any topic about the latest patch is thereby permanently moved to the "Latest Patch Discussion" letting the other stuff shine through...

And this is just one idea that could possibly work to help at least alleviate the thousands of topics that CCP MUST read (despite the fact they don't want to - hell I don't read half of them because there isn't enough time in the day to deal with all the tears).. Any other good ideas?

Sounds like a problem with your BIOs then not Eve, since you have a new build make sure your CMOS battery is seated properly or that the cap is on properly on the CMOS jumper pins.. Also life is the longest experiance you will ever have... so the saying "life is to short" doesnt really make sense if you think about it.

If i remember correctly, in the settings menu of the loader there is an option to close it after you launch the client. I for one selected the option to only show the loader if there is an update (handy feature really)..

Hope it gets worked out for you ;)
