So i was hauling stuff around and i noticed that the people who place buy/sell orders might be just npcs...

for example, i was buying antibiotics for 322 isk eachand when i bought them, the quantity stayed the same, but the price changed to 344...
Then i went over to another system and sold them for 355 isk, and the buy order quantity stayed the same.

so just wondering

also, can you check WHO is placing the buy/sell orders?

Check your transactions for the name of the person you sold to.

NPC orders are always over 364 days duration, as they are reset to 365 days every downtime.

Players can only make orders of 90 days or less.

IIRC, NPCs sell Consumer Goods and Skillbooks.

At a guess, the CGs are designed to be an introductory trading product (although I don't think there's any real explanation of this), I seem to remember hauling large quantities of cigarettes across systems in the very early days, and making what seemed like big isk at the time.

Aside from these exceptions (please add to the list if I'm wrong) the rest of the market is player driven.

First question. Yes, you're not crazy (well, maybe you are, but not about this), I've noticed quite a few market items with around 365 days duration. Often multiple stations in the same region have the same item listed with the same duration/number of items. When you buy or sell something to these orders, the outstanding quantity doesn't change. These are NPC orders. It doesn't stop you buying/sellling the item to others, but will restrict what you charge unless you pick a different station and hope.

Second question. One trick you can use to find out who is buying/sellilng smaller items is to buy/sell one unit. Then go and check the transaction tab to find out who the other party was. Obviously this isn't going to work where you only have one item to sell/buy.

Do you play EVE like a girl ...because um... you ARE a girl?

Do you know about the WGoE (Women Gamers of EVE) chat channel?

Confirmed.

There are items that are bought and sold by NPC.

These items all fall under the consumer good category (aka spiced wine etc).
All modules, ships, rigs, ammo and drones for instance are player supplied, consumer goods are NPC seeded and are there so people can get basic idea on how trading works. The items are useless other then being traded or just collected for fun.

You can spot NPC buy / sell orders by the time remaining. Player orders can't be longer then 90 days and will always go down in time left. NPC orders are fixed at 365 days and will reset at downtime so NPC orders will never be less then 364 days (as downtime resets them every single day).

For those liking to speculate on the market, they might be usefull the day the full extent of WIS is implemented. Thought there was definately a real chance that that crap would actually serve any purpose in game. [someone] knows if/when it'll happen now.

Yes the NPC markets are there. Their are loads of them. I think they are there to regulate the market as a player driven market community will alway destroy itself. I've seen this from experiance. Who ever thought of this had the right stuff going on in their head even though the basic player will never know or understand

As has been mentioned above - consumer goods, skillbooks and T1 BPOs are sold by NPCs. Also i think POS reactions, cant think of any others but there certainly are not laods of them. They are sold by NPCs because there is currently no mechanic for players to create them, but teh ultimate goal is to have everything ingame player driven. For example all the PI stuff used to be NPC sold until they brought PI in.

I think consumer goods were always intended to help new players earn some isk and learn the basics of trading and hauling etc. By being npc sold CCP can ensure the prices are allways low and accessable by new players and that way they can also intergrate them into missions.
