Howdy,

I've recently installed the latest version of EVE on a laptop I received from a buddy who told me he previously had run EVE on it, however I am unable to start the program past the initial splash screen. Even with a fresh wipe of the hard drive and installation of windows 7, and a new download of the latest copy of EVE, the game refuses to function properly. I have ran the repair client in the EVE folder but it made no difference when it said the game was correctly installed.

Upon starting EVE the splash screen will appear to load as normal, however after the splash disappears the game will sit in a minimized? state on the taskbar and be unable to be alt tabbed to. Nor will it load up full screen as normal. If I attempt to click on it or switch to it in anyway the process shows as "not responding" and I have to close it via the ctrl-alt-del menu.

Any help with resolving this problem would be much appreciated.

You really should back your post with some facts about the laptop. Some vague "it used to run Eve fine" is not enough, the minimum specs for running Eve have changed in the last year.

Anyway, to get you started: Check if your laptop supports Shader Model 3; Yes? Then reinstall DirectX and check for the latest video card drivers.

You could also run the LogServer alongside the client, when you start it up. There might be something that's shown there to help us debug the issue.

I've linked a free download to the corresponding logfile (edit: in the post above due to forum errors). Most notably it was repeating "trinity is using the regular device" over and over again while it hung and I was forced to end the process.

More info on the laptop: lenovo t60 with a 2.0ghz dual core and ati x1400 video card (which I saw a reviewer mention he played doom3 fine with medium graphics on this laptop so im guessing eve shouldn't be an issue hardware wise).

The last thing I am feeling uncertain about is the fact that the device came with windows vista but my friend installed windows 7 before giving the device to me, and im not 100% convinced its running windows as well as it could be.

Card supports shader 3, the cpu however might not be compatible with new client changes.

Also that is going to struggle with eve, badly.

With only 128mb video memory and 1gb of ram, its going to be hell trying to do anything mate. The video memory is going to really let you down, the cpu is pretty old as well.

I say its the CPU, last year ccp done something and made a lot of 2000-2004 cpu's obsolete, not sure if thats the right dates
