Has anybody tried the new Launcher?

But I have gotten the issue of now I cannot run multiple clients under the same directory...is this true with windows? Error says "cannot run multiple instances of launcher.exe from same directory"

I would rather NOT have 4 separate installs of eve...waste of space.

Upgraded to Wine 1.4 (compiled from source) and now starting fine.

(Also there's background music, which is new to me. I don't know if I like it, but there it is.)

Additional: after EVE started I had problems with repeated client disconnects. I installed vcrun2010 which didn't make a difference, then renamed the Jukebox file again. Seems to be back to normal now.

once I got vcrun2010 installed, it did work ok after that with wine 1.4.

I also havent had a problem with running concurrent clients when sending each one to a different explorer desktop.

Swapping the order for vcrun100 also worked for me.

I guess I totally misunderstand the purpose of the launcher though... The first time it ran it patched up the client, then after fixing the vcrun100 issue the launcher said 'client ready' and I hit the PLAY button. The client said there was a patch available and did it's usual self-patch process.

So.. I guess the launcher only does major updates and the client itself still does optional patches? I'm not seeing much benefit to the launcher.

Sadly it does not work for me.
I have wine 1.4 rc6 and Ubuntu 11.10
After installing vcrun2010 the error remains. Editig the dll preferences in winecfg makes the crashbox go away, but it does not start.

New launcher so far:

Crashed, but as others mentioned, installing via winetricks and setting the dll worked fine.
I was running wine-1.3.37 before which was super stable and nice, but that failed to start the game.
Updated to wine-1.4-rc6, and that got my game running.

Now, when I try to start a second Eve process, I'm told the launcher will only allow "one instance"?
Did CCP really make a launcher that requires a seperate copy of Eve for each of your toons?

Anyone found a viable way around that except having multiple .wine folders?

Is it just me or is wine-1.4-rc6 really laggy? I get 15-20 FPS where I got a stable ~60 in 1.3.37?

then I ran winecfg and changed msvcr100.dll from "native, builtin" to "builtin, native"

It works now :)

worked here without installing vcrun2010, with fix above.

Problem remains, i can only launch one client.

i use this to start it:
Quote:
wine explorer /desktop=eve1,2046x1024 ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/eve.exe

also tried '/launcher/launcher.exe' instead of eve.exe.

allways complains about running multiple instances.

i guess symlinking the directorys to diffrent names might work, but that could possibly screw up the launcher.

any ideas (except installing 3 clients obviously) ?

Edit: fixed it!

open the settings dialog of the launcher, and on the 'startup' tab, check 'Close Eve launcher after starting Eve'.

after that i can start multiple clients again.

this also worked for me (install vcrun10 via winetricks then switching the dll)

ubuntu 11.10
wine-1.3.29

When i try to update the next client i can not even start the launcher.

At least someone shares my problems :)
Maybe we can find out what is different for us.
Do you run 64Bit Ubuntu?
What DirectX version are you running? VCRUN2008 installed?

This message starts the misery:
err:module:find_forwarded_export function not found for forward 'msvcrt._controlfp_s' used by L"C:\\windows\\system32\\msvcr100.dll". If you are using builtin L"msvcr100.dll", try using the native one instead.

Confirming, this solves the recent issue with the Eve Launcher for wine 1.3.37-2 on Debian Squeeze.

Multiclient works now:

Start the launcher, click the 'tool' looking item in the upper right corner, and check the box "Close the EVE Launcher after starting EVE Online".
