Anyone having problems with the new 'Launcher'?

I’m having problems with this new ‘Launcher’ and wondered if anyone else is having the same sort of weird happenings?

The Launcher is version 1.03 (top left corner).

If I start the Launcher direct from within its own folder (in the SiSi client), it starts up fine, reports the client is out of date, and tries to download a huge (I would say about 1 Gig) patch, then tries to update my TQ folder. Luckily I’ve had this before and stop it as soon as it starts.

The only way I have been able to patch and get on SiSi is to run the old universal patcher and launcher to patch the SiSi client and let it run the Launcher. That way the Launcher starts the SiSi client correctly and I can log in.

However last night and again today the Launcher has confused me even further, after clicking the [Play] button I get a quick flash of the Crucible screen, then the Launcher flashes back up again followed by a long wait before the log in screen appears and overwrites it. This took so long last night on my laptop I actually clicked the [Play] button again thinking the client had failed to start and started 2 copies of the client.

So today after patching as above I log in on my main PC just in time to get booted by an unscheduled closedown (just my luck Cry), so I left the Launcher open thinking it would patch the SiSi client as soon as it was back on-line.
No such luck, SiSi was back up, I clicked the [Play] button and off it goes to download the TQ to SiSi blasted patch and update my TQ client yet again.
I have now reverted to the old patcher and launcher again and low and behold it worked fine.

I give up!
I think a very long skill training for the rest of the week would be advisable Blink

OK, I'm going to break this down so that I can get to the bottom of your problem.

So you have a separate install of the client, in its own folder, and to start the client you go into the launcher subfolder, and start launcher.exe directly? Why do you think it's trying to update your TQ folder? Where is that located? How do you stop the Launcher?

By universal patcher do you mean the old Sisi Launcher or the Generic Patch?

The booting of the client has remained unchanged. We've done no changes to the login screen, login animation or anything there, so my gut feeling is that this is simply down to the speed at which your laptop loads the scene, although you do seem to be implying that it loaded slower than usual, which you're attributing to the Launcher.

You were logging into Sisi and got disconnected? Or was it TQ?

Which old patcher are you referring to? Why do you think it was trying to update your TQ client? Do you mean that it was updating your Sisi client to be compatible with TQ? Please don't give up, I really want to get to the bottom of your issues, and I need your feedback to do just that.

Both my laptop and my main games pc have a single hard disk but multiple partitions. I usually have 2 TQ client installs on one partition, each in its own folder and a single copy of the SiSi client on a separate partition in its own folder.

I first ran the new Launcher (note the upper case L), from within the \CCP\EVE\Launcher folder by simply double clicking it.

I know it was trying to update the TQ folder because the message at the bottom of the Launcher says it is trying to construct a patch (could not remember the exact words but the gist is) from 349642 > 344784.
I usually check the SiSi client number from Chribba’s eve-offline site and from the above numbers it seems 349642 is the current SiSi client and 344784 is the current TQ client.
Unless I’m wrong and the Launcher is trying to return the SiSi client back to a TQ one.

Anyway I stopped the download/patch by clicking the X in the top corner to close the Launcher.

I thought I remembered the Launcher (new one) would close to the task bar once the Crucible splash screen popped up. The new splash screen seems square where the old screen was more oblong and stayed on screen until the log in screen appeared now the Launcher overwrites it almost as soon as it appears.

I clicked the [Play] button on the new Launcher, I had left it running after being booted from SiSi about 1 minute after I had patched and logged in this morning (UK time). Immediately after I clicked the [Play] button the Launcher repeated the ‘Construct a patch’ message the same as running it direct from its own folder and started to download whatever patch/files (it never said) exactly as before.

Closing the Launcher by clicking the X as before then launching the old SiSi launcher clicking the [Play EVE on Singularity] button started the new Launcher (which reported the client was up to date) and now clicking the [Play] button launched the SiSi client.

Thanks for your detailed reply :).

You're correct in that the Launcher was attempting you patch you down from the SISI to TQ. Mechanically speaking, this is possible for the Launcher, but isn't something we'd recommend (not that you were doing this intentionally). It should be acting on the SISI client in question, however, not either of your TQ folders.

This was almost certainly due to a deployment issue, rather than something inherent to the EVE Launcher itself. That said, we'll keep an eye out for this going forward.

I've solved this, you sneaked in a tick box to close the Launcher on starting the Eve client (or I'm getting to old to notice Smile), anyway that 'problem' is now solved.

Am I the only one who has the launcher stay up even after I click start?

See the post above you for a solution :) There is an option in the settings menu under the Startup tab - select "Close the EVE Launcher after starting EVE Online"þ

As i noted in another post , i too ran the launcher and it AUTO-PATCHED my singularity folder to a tranquility one.
This is weird, as i used the launcher previously and was taken to the singularity server.
(i had noticed that it said above the play button that the tranquility server was online with 33,000+ players)
i WAS in the singularity server ....
So then there was a unscheduled shutdown. (of singularity server)
i left the game and upon comming back a few hours later i ran the launcher again and was 'patched' into a tranquility 'clone'.
why did the launcher let me go to the singularity the first time but not the next?

It seems to update really slowely for me.

Although it went faster when i changed the number of download threads.

Somehow I ended up on TQ while trying to get onto SiSi... think the launcher it brought up patched my SiSI to a TQ clone...

I can't get my head around how to even get the clients separate now as I seem to have Duality, Singularity and Main EvE client files all in the CCP folder and don't much fancy copying over 30 GB of files to get onto a test server that was much easier to access before.

It as been a while since I last tried to get onto SiSi though. Anyone know how to solve this?

YAY! Fixed it... Used the command line change on short cut directed at my Singularity folder within the CCP one. Line in the shortcut should be:-

"D:\Program Files\CCP\Singularity\eve.exe" /server:Singularity

Worked for me... it might work for others.
