Lowsec and scan resolution.

I have a fairly simple question for the masses. What scan resolution thresholds should I be looking for to stop most anything on a lowsec gate camp?

Normally the answers are just double sebo an inty or get an insta loki. That being said the inty isnt going to work for lowsec gate since gun fire will more or less alpha it, and assuming a loki isnt avail what kind of resolutions do I need on heavy tanked catch bc's to grab most everything.

Ive also assumed that my brick tackle(s) will have high dmg alpha squad either on grid or at a near tac. Thus thier dps is not important or can be all neuts/rr etc.

armor hic with 3 sensor boosters should be able to catch "most anything"

Go for 1500+ and you'll catch just about everything.

A hictor is a good choice for tackle in low-sec. you can easily boost them to well over 2k and you'll even be catching pods.

700-800 will catch everything except cynabals and frigates. 1500+ will get basically everything lag permitting. Both are easily achieved on even BC's with a few remote sebo's. Local sebo's are not nearly as effective but can be used on some ships with naturally high scan res like the tornado and t3's with scan res subsystems.

After about 1500 it becomes more a issue of latency and your reactions.

On many targets you have less than a 1 second window to start your lock.

Once you hit the 1500 threshold you can catch most pods coming out of destroyed ships simply because of the damned loading bar the pod gets. Recently got caught myself by somebody running a setup like that.

If you get about 3500 you have a reasonable chance of catching recons.

If you have an armor hictor then pretty much anything without cov ops cloak will be caught. Except for pods that jumped through the gate.

Speaking from experience unfortunately...

How much herp could a herp derp derp if a herp derp could herp derp.

u can catch stealth ships in low. sec - u just need a 0.2 sec of luck :) scan resolution tactics r very used in low sec. but not how the above ppl have explained to you. 2-3k scan nres is not that much. to have a chance to get clokers u need to be at minimum 6k scan res. how do you do that ?

let`s take a legion for example. u can build a fair amount of tank or a good active tank. electronic subsystem gives you a nice scan res boost. get a sensor booster and 3 scan res rigs. medium targeting something :) this will put you somewhere around 1.5k scan res. then with a secondary ship - fitt 4-5 remote sensor boosters and boost the legion with it. it should blow up your scan res at 4-5k minimum. quafe ultra also helps. this is how pirates in rancer do it. u can tackle anything that does not cloack. and some of the clokers as well. on a dramiel u can get 10k scan res. but very fragile.

ps. if u boost someone with negative sec status will count as global criminal. so be carefull. have fun

shoot for about 1400, more is great but that is doable with most BCs and will typically catch anything slower then an interceptor

And just to clarify you will never catch a cov ops ship unless they make a mistake or cant cloak due to item/ship proximity. However idiots do make mistakes all the timeBig smile

tbh, it depends a lot on your RL location.
i live in AU and there's no point in my flying fast tackle at all as even with 2000+ scan res, i can't catch anything decently quick due to server ping lag.

If you want fast tackle without having to commit overly, you can use a slaved Arazu with a full rack of sebos and an RF point and tackle things from 100km off the gate, it tanks gateguns reasonable well, far longer than it takes for your fleet to warp in from an offgrid tactical.
