"Because it would be cool" is a terribad reason to do anything (see: Supers).

It's your own damn fault you decided to sit in station and do nothing whilst waiting for skills to train.

Are you dense?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Not entirely true.

There are references in EVE's Prime Fiction (developer approved or written) to ships being outfitted with a pod gantry for disembarking into the INTERIOR of that same ship. A good example is the Significance, an Amarr capital ship (possibly Archon) referenced extensively in both TonyG books. The Capsuleer captain of the Significance was stationed far from the New Eden star system near the actual EVE gate and required to stay there. Many times in both books, he is seen in both the capsule and walking around the ship's decks. He was able to swap between those two environments through use of this pod gantry built into his ship. These pod gantries are large and complex, and would likely not be fitted to anything smaller than a battlecruiser or large cruiser. They are pretty much the same technology used to pull you from your pod at a station, except they are built into your ship.

Even so, you cannot fly the ship while not in your pod unless you decided to bestow your ship with a full crew and chain of command including bridge officers.

actually, walking around in ships would be awesome, even if it is against the eve lore, who gives a **** about that anyway? come on

i'd really like to see some more carbon eye candy, even if it only would be available to walk around on your ship when its docked

imagine you could visit your weaponry room and see how massive those 800mm autocannons are... hehe

or look at your drones in your dronebay in real life size, hobgoblins are almost the size of a big car i think

Change the EVE lore or add something to allow piloting your ship from inside.

changing lore is always bad.

changing lore because "hurr durr this is cooler herpa derpa" is what put a big bullseye on George Lucas' head.

so no, changing lore for one feature that si completely terrible and inefficient to what we already ahve (at elast in soemthing as significant as HOW YOU FLY YOUR SHIP) is not only not gonna happen, you should feel bad for suggesting it.

Hmmm... CCP might care about the lore, as do many of the players.

But inspecting yur ship while docked is well within it, even if it is pointless and a huge waste of devs resources.

drones are huge, like the hobgoblin is the size of smaller passenger jets.
actually, it would be a lot less time to do than you are probably thinking it is. they said when they released the 3 other CQs that all the stuff in there are pre rendered ready to go modular segments, meaning that since they already have the general shape of the ship as well as the race. they could probably toss together an interior fairly easily. one issue I see with this is something like a titan, if you were allowed to walk around that while in space, you might never find the pod bay ever again. they're all 15+ KM long I would say at least 1 KM wide and a few KM tall. there's a ton of space in there to get lost in.
I could see this as being a neat idea though. in the lore it seems that pod gantries are already in place as a "real" item, you could say that when you leave your pod it take a snapshot of your brain at that time so that if the ship does blow up it has something to send back. and give you some basic control of the ship through the now unused command center, so that you could go mine or AP through space while you go stroll around your ship.

[I like this idea a lot. But I now see many people do not like change especially the ones calling me dense? But in regards to getting lost in your ship, there would be a button that says "Go to pilots quarters" just like the change in view we have now you can switch between old and new views. This would not take over eves game play? but open a whole new level of adventure for it. I think the majority of people like this idea but they are so wrapped up into the storyline they don't want to consider change. ]Idea

The Significance was a one-off design that Jamyl (or was it Falek and the rest of her "handlers"?) commissioned for the study of the Eve Gate in New Eden. I'll have to re-read Empyrean Age though, as I don't remember him as being described as a capsuleer (it's been a while, you may be right).

Being a one-off design, it cannot be used to imply that general-use capsuleer vessels would be capable of such a fitting. Much less being able to have the fitting and still maintain a decently sized cargobay/dronebay.

With that said, in al the books that have a capsuleer as a character -- they're all made out to be reluctant to step outside the '"safety" of the pod, as they're MORTAL without it. Not to mention, they all seem to be more than a little disoriented not having the 'feeling' of their hull/guns/warpdrive/etc.

Screw with the EVE Lore to bend over a hot mechanic chick and bang her silly? JD says yes.

But also no. Sure, if you want to walk up to your ship and walk around while it's docked and then go ahead and bang the aforementioned mechanic chick, sure. But whilst in space? No. It's also a waste of Dev's time. They should be working on making the full station view and balancing and remodeling the ships properly. When all that's done, they can look at it, but until that's done its a waste of time.

just the mechanic chick? were CAPSULEERS, with enough wealth to buy cities, we get ALL the women on the ship, at once, every night.

but on a more serious note, WiS (walking in ships) should not even be looked at until the main-game is cleaned up, balanced, and regualr walking in stations is made better, then the devs can amybe CONSIDER letting youexplore your ship.

but seriously, only when docked, cause it would make no sense for you to get out when flying, if i recall, isnt the cammand bridge kinda ripped out of the ship to make room for the pod? so there woudlnt even be a place to cammand your ship FROM as OP was talking about (or was that part from a different proposal?)
