Just adding to the freeze symptoms (which atm I'm unsure if it is the GFX hardware is causing issues) or something else.
After 1.0.2, the intermittent freezing issue for my case became less fatalistic - where as previously it used to BSOD.

Just an update, problem seem to have disappeared as of today.
I don't think it was the latest hotfix that solved the issue either (because I confirmed the issue persisted after the download).

You know what solved it? (touch wood) I was forced to reseat the PC's 4 DIMM banks when it hung and couldn't pass POST.
So those constant intermittent freezing and nvidia driver BSOD seems to be related to "flaky" memory issues.

Exploring what makes EVE more sensitive to flaky memory than any other programs might be worth a shot - at solving those wierd freezing issues that cannot be/hard to be replicated.

I'm getting this as well. Random, hard freeze of Windows that can only be resolved by a hard reset of the system.

2x GTX 260 in SLI Driver 285.62
Intel QX9650, P45 Mobo
8GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
running a single eve client in Windowed mode

I'll try to get what GM Retrofire asked for, but I'm wary of intentionally doing something that locks up the system entirely. I really don't want to have to re-install Windows should an OS file get corrupted. What?

Eve is the only application that triggers this instability. Other games work fine.

EDIT: The instructions GM Retrofire lists includes saving the log file after recreating the problem. If the system is unusable when the problem occurs, how is this possible? Windows doesn't even know something happened. Reboots are normal, no "Windows has recovered from a serious error" type messages, so whatever is happening, it just borks EVERYTHING. I've waited as long as 5 minutes for something to happen on the system, but it's frozen solid.

Well, even in the new year, EvE hangs my computer. I am having the same problem as you guys. I try to start EvE, it starts up and I can log in. Once I go through character selection, it freezes everything up. I've tried everything from reinstalling EvE to doing a complete re-install of my drivers. My problem did not however, occur with a patch. My EvE worked fine until I got a really bad virus and have to restore my computer to factory settings. Once I got my computer up to date, when i tried to play EvE, the whole hanging problem started. I have tried to give the GM's the info they need, but because everything needs to be saved manually, this is not possible. My skill que is empty, my planetary factories are still and I'm getting more frustrated by the day. We need help, ill try anything at this point!

I too had this issue on both of my nvidia pc's

After reading a dev post i installed this bit of software to monitor my fans and temps.

Now for no reason I can think of, when I hit configure on this app the freezing disappears completely .
Maybe someone else can shine a better light on this.

Hopefully this will help somebody as it certainly did for me and two of my friends.

Just to note though my game does not crash is just locks up randomly for about 30 seconds including the mouse pointer. Then just before it unfreezes the UI windows will disappear (flicker off then back on) then reappaer and the client will then unfreeze and respond to user input again. So the game is playable in this state it just gets really frustrating at times esp when in missions. Smile It puts me off wanting to try any PvP as well yeah if my client was to freeze during PvP I would just probably unfreeze to find a pod as the server seems to carry on with my last commands even though the client is in a frozen state.

This is exactly what I've been dealing with since Incarna. (And yes... it's put me in my pod twice and forced me to tell jokes as ransom once. Roll As if solo PvP isn't hard enough) Real fun when warping in on targets.

Client freezes. But the mouse still moves. After about 20 seconds the mouse freezes. Ten seconds later it unfreezes.

The longer I run Eve, the more frequent the freezes become. This all started with the Incarna release.

I've checked my system extensively. Obsessively. I've purchased new network cards. I've changed ISP's. I've updated drivers endlessly. I've pinged and tested and tested some more.

The problem is clearly something in the Eve client... and something which was changed for Incarna.

EDIT: Oh yeah... here's a fun little tidbit for you: About half the time the freeze triggers something in my motherboard's integrated audio, because when it unfreezes the little balloon from the Gigabyte audio manager pops up telling me "An audio jack has just been plugged in" when nothing was changed. MB has up to date drivers, I've had Eve sound turned off since 2007.

I just had four freezes in less than 10 minutes. This is very frustrating.

I found it.

It's the Autopilot. If I do not set an autopilot route anywhere, and don't open the map (even the mini-map on the side of the screen), I never get the freezes. I've now played hours and hours spanning two days without a single freeze.

Which makes sense; I'd forgotten that when Incarna hit, for about a week I couldn't set an autopilot route or open my map without the game crashing. I ended up having to navigate manually using Ombey's maps. A minor patch afterwards fixed that, but that's when the freezes started.

As wonderful as it's been playing without the freezes even a couple of days, I'll see if I can narrow this thing down a bit more. It's a bit annoying getting lost on my way to Dodixie and having to pull out Ombey's map. Lol

If anyone's still reading:

The problem (see above) was caused by an older model Nvidia graphics card (about three years old IIRC). When I upgraded my card the freezes stopped. And I can finally set destinations in autopilot and open my star map.

I now have no issues with the client.

Thanks for letting me know guess I will need to find myself a slightly new graphics card then. I also am using an old Nvidia graphics card. Maybe CCP should change their minimum specification if their game no longer works as intended with these cards.

This Issue has still not been resolved.

I can not submit a log file because EVE MAKES MY WHOLE COMPUTER FREEZE.

The best solution I have come up with thus far is to change the compatability mode to another OS whenever it happens. This seems to work well untill a CCP update.

I have had this issue for probly 2 years now and i have had multiple OS's and computers that have all done this.
Keep this thread open!!!

I have had this issue since cruible, where I have to hard-reset my computer.

I seem to have found a workaround in my case, by installing an older driver.

My system:

Intel Core duo E8400 3gz
2x XFX Geforce 9600gt SLI
Windows 7 32-bit

I am currently using driver no. 270.61.

This has , as far as I can see, resolved the issue.

Hope this can help some of you.

I too am having this freezing problem.

Total system lockup, no dumps of any kind remain.
Sometimes all eve settings are reset to default (this is great on a roam ^^)

Thought it may be hardware but swapped and checked everything, its not my rig.

Yesterday morning I reverted to an older Nvidia driver, 260.21 I think it is.

Played for 6 hours, no freezes. Anyone else confirm this is a fix?

Will post again in a few days, hopefully with same good news :)

Driver version is 280.26*

Me again, I still say that changing the compatability mode works the best as a temporary fix.
At least I am able to play for a period of time befor the issue happens again. (Usualy until a new CCP patch or update)
Incase you havent seen any of my earlyer posts on this thread, my issue is that the game freezes up my entire computer so that I have to do a hard boot to run windows again.

I did notice however that this does not happen when the game is loading while minimized.
I just hit the minimize key the instant the game starts and then again at log in and again when loading a Charachter.
I am starting to wonder if this is a 3D issue because the feature made alot of ground about 2 years ago and thats when this all started to happen.

Keep this post going folks. CCP will not make this a prority unless more people report what is happening both good and bad.

I hope that there is a way I can track what is happening as a GM posted earlyer that a crash dump cant not be retrieved if your whole computer locks up.

Cheers,

i had random freezing problems which was caused by my hard-disk; the SATA cable was broken, or loosely connected.I replaced the cable and i havn't got any problems afterwards.

I disagree!

Same issue here. Client freezes, windows becomes unresponsive and after a few minutes system returns to a normal state (this keeps cycling like that). If it would be just Eve freezing things would make sense, but even the Youtube clips I'm watching while playing freeze and lag.

i7-2600K - stock speeds
GA-Z68-UD3HB3 (rev 1.3)
16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
MSI GTX560 - 296.10 (latest WHQL driver)
Windows 7 Professional
X-Fi titanium soundcard
OCZ Agility3 120gb (Eve installed on a 500mb samsung drive)
Dual monitor setup. (1920*1080 and 1680*1050)

Skyrim, Two worlds 2 and Shogun do not freeze up the system.

Please CCP look into this.

Why does this sound like a Heat issue to me... Not only GPU heat but also Northbridge heat for some of you that say it will freeze, then unfreeze, and things like the soundcard or something else has been disconnected or the like...

I would reccomend some users get HWinfo at http://www.hwinfo.com/ and check the temps of all the devices in your systems while running the game. You will want to click on the Sensors button and then start logging before you start the game, then hopefully it will log up until it either hangs or locks and shows the max temps around that time.

Eve has a weird way of really maxing out system temps easy especially if you set interval to unlimited (pretty much vsync off)

Also a lot of nvidia cards for some dumb reason have auto fans that think 90C+ is ok for extended periods which eve will easily hit (my SLI 560TI setup will on auto every damn time. On Manual with MSI afterburner (which can cause issues with EVE in its own way if improperly setup) can keep the cards at a nice 78-81C max.

I want to ask who here is having this issue, with nvidia, after a fresh reformat with only windows updates and a single Nvidia driver installation?

And who here is having this issue since updating drivers but did not run a drivercleaner on the old drivers?

Finally some of you may also want to run Memtest86 on your comps overnight and see if everything checks out. usually it would affect patching/installing more than playing, but hey in this case you never 100% know where the 1/0 error will crop up and EVE definitly pushes hardware to the point it may show up.

Follow my post and get us the info. That might help narrow down the issue. I had some crazy fun with Nvidia and still have some weird glitch/crashing issues with the latest updates, but at least none have left me completely stranded like some of you appear to be. Hard locks Suuuck.

Also some mention youtube clips while playing and such. I would reccomend not doing ANYTHING especially watching youtube while trying to troubleshoot this issue since Youtube is video, and nvidia has a Video Speed/Processing in their drivers that if it is a driver issue you have, can wreck havok on the troubleshooting since it will be trying to change the gpu speed when one has focus over the other and all sorts of other nasty stuff ( happens even worse when the 3D Vision drivers arent at 100%) so I would reccomend to get this dialed in, do not do anything else in the meantime while your playing.
