I was told a little bit ago that dreads can't target anything smaller then themselves like cruisers and can only target other Cap ships and stations. Can they target everything or are they limited ?

I was looking at getting for for POS killing and such so i'd like to know if i can be of any help with smaller things

Every ship can target everything.

Its just that cap ship turrets have such a slow turning/targeting speed that they cant hit anything small right?

The problem is that it takes a sieged dread a minute to lock a BS, and more like 1.5 min for a Cruiser. And once it is locked, the dread is tracking in the 0.00x range.

So, it can target anything ... but it could take a while and targeting isn't all there is to fighting.

You can get a capship to target anything (though it takes a while). With sufficient support you might even be able to get one to blap battleships (aka, the battleship is running its mwd, quadruple 90% webbed, and has 20 bonused painters on it, and is sitting at about 100 km or so from the dread). The only things that dreads are really good for is suicide seiging POS's, and suicide seiging enemy capital fleets to take down other dreads, carriers, supers, and titans. Heck, if you trade them at a rate of 30 dreads/titan you manage to take down, you still come out ahead. But don't ever get one and expect to be able to use it against smaller targets.
