The fact that manual patch downloading will disappear is a bit worrying.

For those of us who aren't in the first-world, but work in offices that have a decent connection, we could download the larger patches manually and bring them home to install.
EVE doesn't work through a proxy server, so even though the launcher would give us a transferable patch file after download, how are we supposed to get that file from behind a proxy?

Has the launcher been developed to allow connection through a proxy?Question

I'm not quite sure I understand your question. The Launcher creates a patch that you can simply copy to a USB drive, and take that with you. The proxy should only be an issue for connecting to the internet, and since the Launcher is using ports 80/81 that might not even be that much of an issue.

If you can down load a file but not install an exe on your computer. This new launcher makes down loading the patches on locked down systems unfriendly.

With no way to tell the computer what version of the program we have and no manual patchs being created this type of patching will not work any more.

A launcher that runs on the eve server. which we can enter a version number and then down load a data only patch would be the best solution.

If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

It is for people sitting behind a proxy that requires authentication for port 80.
I can't connect to the EVE servers from work because of the proxy, but i can download because my browser prompts me for authentication.
If the launcher doesn't cater for this, access to any port will be denied and we won't be able to get the patches.

Ah in that case, then no, it won't work.

Anybody care to explain why the launcher is duplicating a number of file/directories from the SiSi program directory C:\Program files\CCP\SiSi to Program Files directory in the Windows Virtual Store C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\CCP\SiSi, and as a result takes ages to start-up with zero user feedback Evil

Also while the launcher makes a UAC request when it updates itself, it fails to do so when it tries to apply an update to the game. And, as a result fails. At least it is no longer buggering about with file system security....

Currently the only way of updating SiSi is to use the SiSi Launcher, at least still works...

Been working on this one all day and i'll be sending out an update for this shortly.
until then, a workaround is to start the launcher as administrator and immediately shutting it down. Then you can start it normally.

Why is CCP trying to fix something that IS NOT BROKEN? How about we get things fixed that really are broken?

Have you ever had a look at a feedback thread from a big expansion? If you have, you know that there are plenty of people who run into issues patching their clients. This is not just going to make patching easier, but together with logging we can make it more robust and fix issues that we otherwise wouldn't know about.

Ontop of fixing issues with the patching mechanics itself, thanks to the Launcher we will have the ability to more easily and quickly release for example crash fixes without having to jump through the current deployment hoops.

So if you care about hoop jumping, quality of patching and quality in the game, you will like the Launcher.

I'm not entirely sure where I should post this, but seeing as how it's close maybe it will be helpful. Regarding the new missile launchers, It appears some of the tool tips were skipped during the patch. The Sacrilege (amarr HAC) still has a bonus to "heavy assault missiles" despite those no longer existing due to the change in names. Just a heads up to whoever you need to pass that info along too.

Is there any way at all CCP can introduce an account/character select screen into the launcher?

Having to go through the launcher + account sign in + character select every time we switch characters is going to be a pain in the ass.

Way to steal tech from other MMOs...WoW has had this for years now. Multi-tiered installation...wow that sounds a lot like what they released with their latest expansion...and peer to peer updates...gee that sounds a lot like what WoW did on their PREVIOUS expansion before their latest one bout 2 years ago...

Way to catch up...

I was so happy eve did not have a ******** launcher system and was so angry at other games for doing this ridicule and now it comes to eve? I though you went back to improving the game, not breaking it.

o/
I am not sure if someone didnt write that thou, dont have time to read all 8 pages of replies. So if this is redundant reply, please feel free to delete this and punish me :oP

Please add more themes maybe Caldari/Gallente etc.

And I am missing backgrounds/animations/music from older datadiscs or at least Ive never found where to change that, so if you can add this please in future release launcher I would be really happy.

Thanks, Kat

I have a couple of issues that I would be grateful if you could clear up please.

1) I have a very poor internet connection, I have sub 1mb dowload speeds, therefore I often download the patches at friends / families / internet cafe's wherever. Most likey I will not be able to install this launcher application on these other PC's, so how will I get my patches ?

2) Mulitple client installs on one PC. Will the launcher pull the patch file down for each install ? Presently I just copy the file to the other installations and run from there. For why this is a problem, see issue number 1 (ie very poor internet connection)

Thanks in advance.

I attend a University that recently started blocking all peer-to-peer connections. In addition to blocking the connections, the network will temporarily disable your internet if any p2p activity is detected. People have been having issues updating WOW and League of Legends. The IT support recommends disabling the p2p option of updating. Will the EVE launcher also enable a user to disable the p2p?

If you do your multiple installs as "junction" points (on Windows XP onward, with NTFS drives) then patching one of the junction points will result in all of them being patched. Because with junction points, they all point at the exact same set of files.

(Junction points are the best way to do "multiple installs". You get the reduction of space used on the drive, but you still get to have separate settings/cache folders for each client or set of clients.)

The Launcher should be able to handle your internet connection, regardless of speed. The data received from our content delivery network is checksummed to ensure that it's consistent before applying it.

You won't be able to download the patches as stand alone files any more, since the patches are created by the Launcher itself, when it examines your client prior to patching.

Regarding multiple installs, the Launcher downloads the patch into the client's root directory, and supports the ability to export, and subsequently import the patch into another client.

Long term, we want to get rid of the reasons for having multiple clients (usually related to having multiple settings configurations for different characters) which should solve this issue nicely.

The Launcher doesn't currently use peer to peer technology, so you have nothing to fear about traffic shaping from your University network. At whatever undefined point in the future, where we put in support for P2P, we will of course allow the user the option to opt out of it; it should by no means be a prerequisite, given how prevalent these situations are.
