Thank you for all of that information. I was mainly focusing on looking at the Punisher for my T1 starter. However, I'm now going to take a closer look at the Crucifier too. I'm fascinated with the different types of ewar in the game. I must admit to a bit of confusion on the Amarr tracking disruptors and how effective they are in combat. I'm guessing that a bit of google searching is in order for that. I was also curious about the Inquisitor but I've yet to find any positive reviews of it.

Thank you! "D

Check that link for information about how turret accuracy works in EVE. Tracking disruptors will screw up the "tracking speed" bit of that formula, making it very difficult for turrets to accurately hit anything that's moving.

They can optionally lower the optimal and falloff of the target ship - thus lowering their engagement range. You'd want to go this route if you nano your Crucifier.

My favorite Amarr frigate is the Vengeance. Using rockets it doesn't do as much damage as lot of the other Assault Frigates but it can really take a beating. The 3 mid slots give you a lot more utility than most other amarr frigate options as well. These two factors probably make it the best option if you plan to solo.

Slicer, vengeance, and retribution are your end game. All are amazing Vengeance is the tank, Ret is DPS/range, slicer is nano kite.

Sentinel has lots of good solo fits. But its very thin tank so skill is need to fly it.

Rocket Inquisitor is actually pretty good but needs top tier fitting skills to be viable.

Punisher is sadly best AC fit. So you can active tank or buffer with a 400 plate. Or do the over-sized AB fit. But sadly lasers are just not that good on it.

Crucifier can be good in a gang, solo....tough to pull off.

Mate, this is what you're looking for:

http://flight-of-dragons.blogspot.com/2011/02/plan-or-how-to-learn-to-solo-pvp-in-new.html

Start at that post, work your way to the present. While it may be a solo guide, these skills are beneficial to many aspects of pvp. In the later posts of the Punisher Plan the fits become less complete noob fits to much more refined Punisher fits and also the way to use them/the target selection available to you.

Punishers are pretty great little ships. The only issue is that they put out very little DPS.

Obviously you have to put autocannons on them though.

Once you are tired of dying a hundred times in a punisher get yourself a slicer.

Anything significantly slower than you will be laughed at as you nano circles around them.

Be careful of anything as fast as you and tracking bonused small arty. (dont engage arty wolf/jag, you will have a bad day)

I have come to the similar situation recently

I was looking for a cheap starter pvp ship and i m only trained in Amarr

Punisher is solid tanked with ok dps. but the problem is it's hard to get things tackled. like other comments said, most ships with a web can disengage at will

if you are flying with fds, punisher is vaible, say frigate gang etc. but if you are flying solo, you might get a lot of bad experience

imo, soloing is heavily dependent on target selection, choosing the right target to engage is the key

punisher will be beaten by almost everything other then t1 frigates.

common t1 frigates are kestrel, merlin, rifter, tristan, incursus. among these possible targets, more then half have the advantage to engage and disengage

so most likely you will see someone engage you and either you die or they realise you cant be beaten and disengage

the most possible way to score a kill is by utilizing their mistakes. say a rifter engage you at a far distance so that you scorch him for a while and come to a close range brawl, and he does not disengage in time

people do make mistakes quite a lot, but depending on it is just unreliable imo :/

crucifier is a vaible starter support ship, but its dmg is pathetic

executioner got a paper thin tank and ok speed, but it cant really kite with the speed

inquisitor need tons of skill to be vaible, but even so its just average

so basically, getting a fd to roam with you is the best solution, since amarr ship is designed for large group battle

if you cant get a fd, you might want to fly a punisher and get some field experience. understand the basic concept of eve pvp
then, move to t2 versions. amarr t2 version ship is a powerhouse.

Punisher is fine.

If you're going to go after larger targets, equip an armor repairer, shoot out their drones, and try to tank the remaining damage by flying close under their guns while you bleed them out.

If you're going after other frigs, equip auto cannons and a big buffer tank. You do not have the speed to catch or stay in range of the faster frigs, but what you DO have is a capacitor large enough to run 1 Small Energy Neut and remain cap stable, if you're using the autocannons. Other frigs can't do that. It turns out that if you don't give them enough capacitor to use their prop mod or their web, their speed advantage from having 3 mids goes up in smoke. This means that by the time they know they're losing the fight, they're going to have serious problems disengaging, and if you happen to be the one losing the fight, you should be able to warp off.

There you have it, a solid Punisher plan that will enable you to fight larger ships and other frigs. It's not perfect, but you can make it work with practice, patience, skill, and of course some projectile training. Good luck.

The punisher is a good pvp frigate, right up there with the rifter, tristan, merlin, incursus and kestrel.
1. The thing is that the punisher is not so good in frig vs frig. Pulse lasers have the worst tracking and the other frig will almost always be able to control range (and disengage) The great tank will hold you up vs bigger targets however.
2. The other thing is that the punisher is better fit with autocannons than with lasers. Your tank will improve, increased tracking/dmg type selection increase effective dps and you get space to fit 400plates and an armor repairer.
3. If you do fly a laser punisher, avoid well flown rifters. They easily outtrack you at 500m, which leads to a very slow but inevitable death,.
