Can my computer run Eve in the foreseeable future?

So I am excited I was just given a somewhat decent gaming computer by a dear friend and I am excited to finally be able to play EvE, and from what I get from it, it runs the game great on high for everything at a decent resolution. The character creation runs well, and the walking around my room bit runs pretty good. But I am concerned as I remember that EvE is constantly updating, from the graphics to the features it seems that with every expansion a new upgrade to a computer is needed, so yeah I was wondering if someone could tell me if my computer will be able to run EvE well for at least a few expansions in the forseeable future, as well as if it is able to take these huge corporate fleet battles in null sec I keep hearing about.

Thanks!

you'll be fine for at least 2 years if you want to keep full res. Right now, about the only thing you won't have at full res is (huge) fleet fights (just because 1000 people to a side, plus drones, and fighters/bombers, and missiles makes computers cry).

I've got a terribad old laptop that can still play the game on moderate graphics, and have only upgraded twice for the game (once was Trinity, but it was more because I wanted to than "needed" to, and the second was when they upped to needing SSE2)

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Ah thank you, this puts me at ease. Yeah, I saw that CCP will soon be adding full on walking in stations with other players, as well as combat (as seen in that trailer). I was worried that I wouldn't be able to run it that well, but all the settings are high as I run the small room now, and it appears to run fine. I figure I can just turn down the settings at the appropriate time anywho.

That is Dust and a PS3 exclusive (until CCP learns that lesson).

You missed the interview that hinted at a PC version didn't you?

No, I am familiar with dust. I mean at the end of the trailer, the women goes into the space station room with a pistol of some sort and a shot rings out killing him.

CCP did want walking in stations in 2011, the player base didn't. OccupyJita was the result and playerbase won.

CCP has put the whole idea of walking in stations (aka cheap Space Barbie WoW clone) on minimal resources list, so they are still working on it but they (luckily) resorted back to what EvE is all about, flying pretty spaceship in the fast emptiness of space.

So yes, eventually we will walk in stations, but AFAIK it won't happen really soon. Like said you likely saw a video / screenshots of DUST-514 which is a PS3 exclusive MMO-FPS that CCP is building which is linked to the EVE online universe. (so actions in Dust change EVE, actions in EVE change Dust).

Also, video's (and specially trailers) don't always show 100% of the actual gameplay. They are adverts to sell the game to you, like (IMO best EVE trailer ever) The Butterfly Effect trailer of EVE. It's an awesome video of EVE, but the actions in that video are really rare to come by.

Sorry for double post, but I am curious, what exactly was Occupy Jita? Was walking in stations the only real reason why it happened?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGDDpNRabtI = OccupyJita in action. Players were shooting the monument outside Jita 4-4, and server was so pushed to it's limits (and keep in mind Jita has it's own node on the server) that they had to shut down the gates to Jita and surrounding systems.

It wasn't just the walking in station. The first thing that really upsetted a lot of people is that CCP made the Incarna patch, which mainly only did give you your space barbie in it's own prison cell that they call the Captain's Quarters and that was just about it. So a lot of resources went into something shiny while CCP slacked on the spaceship part of the game (there were a lot of things that needed buffing/nerving, there were no new spaceships released etc.)

Secondly there was the whole idea of the NEX shop (where you can buy clothes and other vanity stuff) but there was also a leaked memo from CCP explaining that the high prices were justified, that maybe in future MMT should be allowed (aka guy with biggest RL wallet can buy the best ships etc.). This really upsetted a lot of people.

EDIT: CCP by the way reverted all the "bad" things they did with Crucible. They admitted they were wrong about certain things and they are focusing again on the spaceship part of the game more. Don't get me wrong, I like walking in stations too, but only if it actually is finished and adds gameplay to EVE. So far I've seen CCP make mistakes, but they also made a really good game and I love it everytime I log in.

Thats good they decided not to implement that. I'm always against the idea of a cash shop that gives an advantage to those with more money. Has it been completely scrapped in that regard? Sorry for the questions, but this kind of stuff interests me.

As far as we know yes, they still have the NEX store, but it's now just vanity items (so clothes your character can wear etc) and most people don't mind that. As this doesn't directly interacts with gameplay.

I believe one of the other ideas of the NEX store they still are looking into is costum paint jobs on ships, again I'm not against such a thing as it means that someone with spare RL money can fly a ship that has a different colour. Doesn't change the game that much.
