Hi all. Apologises for this newbie question but I have just restarted eve after a massive break and had barely played it before. The question I really want answering is what ship would be a good starting point for exploring?

Sorry again if it's an obvious question. I don't have much knowledge :)

Have a look at the link in my signature, one of my guides talks about exploration.

When starting out, I do not recommend trying to get an all-in-one exploration ship. Use a scanning frigate (Probe/Imicus/Heron/Magnate) for finding things, and a combat frigate to clear them. For combat complexes you may need a cruiser, whereas frigates would be fine for magnetometric/radar plexes.

Exploration in itself is a broad subject are you looking to do a specific type of exploration, or look for a certain type of signatures?

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Imicus with a trio of t1 drones and some basic probing/analyzing skills is good enough to get you started on radar/mag and easy combat sites in highsec.

All-in-one ships are sub-optimal by nature, but so is running loops to come back with a combat ship. Ultimately you want to either get an ishtar/t3 or you want to sub a second account. The latter approach takes a lot less time and will save you frustration galore. Good luck.

Your Anathema fit... what's the Ship Scanner for? I never scanned any ships while exploring (high sec only admittedly).

Since you're Gallente, I can recommend getting an Imicus if you want to try out exploration. It's a cheap, but effective ship, that receives a bonus to probe-strength, dependent on your Gallente Frigate Skill-Level. Once you start getting enough ISK, you want to start looking into a Covert Ops Frigate, which is just an even better probing-ship, that can also fit a cloak, and thus be very useful in more dangerous systems. If you want to improve your rate of finding stuff, I can recommend doing a few dozen missions for the Sisters of EVE, and buy a Sisters Core Probe Launcher and a set of Sisters Core Scanner Probes.

Didn't check the fitting, but it's probalby more like "One ship to scan/spy on everything". For exploration all you need is a Codebreaker, an Analyzer and a Salvager. But I fitted my (otherwise collecting dust) Cheetah probably similar: All 3 exploration modules, a probe launcher and ship/cargo scanners.

My first bilion I made in Worm (very low skill ship) in guristas space, speed tank and max kinetic resist it have 5 drone can fit very nice pasive tank you can do in it all hi sec plexes including 4/10 but take time (slow) , but best exploration ship is T3(Tengu) drake is very good for exploration too...(you can take it to low sec and look for radar and magnetometirc site) .
