Eve Installation

This has always bothered me.

Nowadays, a lot of computer users will install their games in a different partition, and it really really sucks when you have to reinstall Eve each time you reformat your system drive because the old eve client folder on the separate untouched partition won't work. Using the repair tool doesn't help either here.

It's worse for people who run multiple accounts using multiple client folders. No, I cannot use the same client folder, the settings must be different for each client for me. There's a lot of settings to adjust, and some you actually have to do in-game like disabling warning message boxes for some stuff. It's really a hassle and I wished CCP made the Eve Client folder fully independent from the system or allowed for the complete backup of ALL settings using a single action for each client.

This surprises me. What is the error you're getting when you attempt to launch the client? Which OS do you use? Have you tried running the DXSETUP.exe in the bin folder of the eve client to see if that helps?

Also, I would recommend using junctions rather than having multiple instances installed.

Exactly, the settings getting dropped makes sense if the drive letter changes but since EVE can be copy pasted and ran from a thumb drive I suspect that you just need to do a re-install of direct x.

Make sure that your personal files are in that another patrition too, since eve creates a folder in there to store your client settings.

I disagree!

Thank you all very much. You made me discover symlinks and ramdisks

I am enjoying them both atm, and through learning to use them, I have also learned about how to better manage eve installations.
