Yup, it's real, it's happening, they're making a new Highlander.

Anyone wanna take a swing at who could play Connor MacLeod? Or The Kurgan?

Oh, before it gets any worse, I hear someone bought the rights to make a new Bladerunner movie...no joke...wonder if it'll be set in 2019 LA?

I'm fine with them making a new Highlander, it's not like that was a master piece to begin with but remaking Bladerunner can only end in tears.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Odd that they would choose to do a remake before making a Highlander 2 sequel.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

The franchise is so used up and abused at this point, that a remake is pretty much the only sensible way to breathe life back in to it. On the other hand the first movie is pretty much the only good thing to come out of the highlander franchise, so it would be funny, if they ruined it too with a remake.

It is a shame they only made the one movie.

Well, as I understand it; they are not allowed to remake it, but can use the name and the cannon associated with Ray Bradbury's book.

So, you won't see a new Decker taking down a new Zora - but you will see a world with new replicants and new Blade Runners.

It might work, but it also might end up looking like a Deus-Ex port to the silver screen.

Guess it'll depend on the story.

It's also a shame that they only made the one Matrix movie.

I believe the Matrix reloaded and revolutions were interesting studies of eastern and western philosophy first and then action movies second; whereas the first film was an action movie first and a philosophical viewpoint second.

As films, they failed to acheive the heights of the first film, but as philosophical studies [primarilly existentialism] they suceeded.

What I found interesting was the split of Maslow's hierarchy of needs into two paths; one being organic needs and the second being instinctive, with willpower [the mind] anthropomophised conceptually in the film as the 'spiritual' balancing act between the two.

So, the films implied that decisions are not made based on needs, but the intellectual merits of a need based on satisifying the organic or instictive requirements presented to the human race.

Hence the commentary leans heavily [in the climatic battle between Ne0 and Mr Smith] at the end when Ne0 realises that the only reason he opposes Mr Smith is because he chooses to, and without that conflict in his mind, there would be no conflict at all.

For all of the realms depicted in the films [Zion, Matrix, Zero-1] to come together and be in balance, they must all embrace this understanding, as this is indicative of how we, as humans, deal with our own 'balance'.

As our brains were never meant to have so many decisions to make each and every day, our lifeforce, our willpower, our minds; are constantly eroded to the point where we become apathetic.

Ergo, if we did not have as many decisions to make between organic and instinctive needs and overintellectualise the outcomes of those decisions, we would have more willpower - in my opinion.

Like a power-up bar in Street Fighter, the human race for the most part has willpower at rock bottom and we can't overcome anything.

Saying humans are passive, or have been pacified, is an injustice to human beings - we care a great deal about the world, but for the majority; we do not have an energy bar high enough to pull off the 14x combo needed.
