Anyone use Windows Live Movie Maker?

I like this software as it's very, very easy/simple to use and it's free. One thing I don't like is no matter how I save it, the end quality is not the best. It comes out a bit fuzzy and you can really see it in the fonts of the overview etc etc.

Is there a way to improve this?

I basically just import the raw fraps video into Movie Maker, do my editing and save it.

You need to encode it to 1080P, for example, to get a good quality.

Are you encoding it in the same resolution as your fraps videos?

Fraps is set at 30 FPS, full size. My first video I did I also recorded the sound, not sure if that would hurt it or not. When watching the raw video, it looks great. Fonts are nice and crisp.

I then imported it into Live Movie Maker, did my thing and saved it as 1080P using the default 1080P setting. Fonts came out a bit fuzzy.

If I'm missing a step, please let me know

That's odd.

I just repeated that process and got fuzzy text - however, I then created a custom profile using the exact same settings and got a clean print out of it.

Give it a go, see what happens.

Missing the step where you use half decent video editing software.

so, I played around with Vegas 11 last night and feel I have the hang of it, final output did look better than how I was doing it.

Anyone recommend the best way or codec to render it? I just used the .mp4 way, not sure exactly what it was called.

.mp4 is a container, which can contain the H.264 codec. This is a very good one, but it has lots of settings.

I can't remember what i used, but try a bitrate between 5 and 10m/bits.
2-pass encode will take more time to render, but the quality (compare to the file size) will be better then one pass encode.
(Of you use one-pass encode, use the CRF mode and not the QP Mode)

Take a small clip (10 seconds) and render it with different settings and compare the output.

I hope i could help.
