How to fix the CSM system

Right now, we have a flawed system, much like in real life. Excluding the fact that CCP probably don't listen to the CSM anyway, nullsec coalitions are far too able to hoard votes.

Here's my solution:
The CSM should be based on a rookie ship tournament.

The fleets will be randomized, and each team can only contain one player from a large coalition. The players will be randomly asked to participate from across the EVE universe. Ten teams of ten will be selected. They will then be dumped into team 1v1s and will battle each other until a final team has emerged. This team has proven that it can cooperate and has at least one strong leader - players from all walks of life have overcome their differences and fought together to battle away the competition.

Then stuff happens and we emerge with ten amazing CSM representatives.

"We will create the introduction thread if that is requested by the community. Also, we will have an ISD Seminar about the CCL team in the coming weeks in which you can ask your questions about the CCL team and provide some constructive feedback to us." - Countless pages of locked threads and numerous permabanned accounts later, change is coming.

Gah...

Did you watch the last Alliance Tournament?

Did you notice it was rigged?

Yeah...

Did you read my post?

Did you notice I said "randomised" and "one person per fleet from a big alliance?"

Yeah...

I'm already President of New Eden. Haven't you heard? Don't believe a thing that CSM tells you. They're just jealous.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

I don't get why this "gets votes from his alliance / corporation" stuff comes up every now and then. How do you think it works in real life? Don't you think a presidential candidate's campaign staff/friends/relatives vote and root for him too?
What makes you think that a large alliance that votes for its leader is somehow unfair to other candidates? They've joined up with their respective corporation of their own volition, and to them, voting for their corp CEO is the obvious choice; not because they are "told" to do so (are they even?), but because that person has gained their trust and is deserving of their votes more than any other candidate could be.

I have a question. Since the candidates don't know who votes for them, how would a candidate enforce it if he demanded his people vote for him?

'Vote for me or I disband this alliance and lose all my power!!!' doesn't exactly make sense.

Part of the democracy, which you seem to hold in high regards, is the freedom to abstain.

If people were to be forced to vote or in any other way cohersed into the CSM procedure then you should atleast have the descency to add an active abstain.

Why should people to be forced to vote on other people whom they don't agree with.

Also the "tournament" option for seats is a real stupid idea if you would actually think about it.
Or don't you know tournaments get rigged in EVE?
Or do you think that someone who manages to shoot down someone else is also a good CSM?

I could list a bunch of flaws, but why should I do the thinking for you.

Can someone make an extensive study material on how to break an CSM system, so we can figure out how to fix it ?
Or is it actually broken ?

Only once it is revealed that we actually voted Mitten's puppy in as CSM chair will it be broken.

Well i dont know, more heads more knowledge. His dog can have some great insight on how to make things better in EVE Big smile

Imagine the sheer volume of new subs payed by dog shelters and "masters" so their dogs can play internet spaceshipz.

And imagine all those pro-elite PvP entities being beaten up by an newbie corp full of dogs.

The CSM system should be scrapped altogether. It's no different then a popularity contest for nullsec. And nullsec is full of alliances the RMT and are hellbent on removing everyone's ISK "faucet" and buff theirs...
