Same problem. I followed the instructions at http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Singularity for copying my existing directory, but although the initial screen comes up trying to connect to Singularity, it does a few steps of updating nothing then comes back to the launcher which launches eve connecting to Tranqility.

Instead of modifying the eve.exe shortcut like the instructions describe, I made the same change to a shortcut to the launcher exe (under the launcher subfolder) and then the launcher made a patch and then it downloaded 143.45 MB and NOW it's correctly launching the EVE client against Singularity for me.

Thanks a lot. This helped.

I haven't logged on to SiSi for a month now, and changing the shortcut destination from "EVESisi\eve.exe" to "EVESisi\launcher\launcher.exe" solved the server problem. It also uses the old settings under "AppData\CCP", what made me happy.
It patched like you said. It still shows Tranquility on Launcher-window, but bypasses correctly to Sisi afterwards (even when using the Launcher-window each time, and not disabling it when there are no updates available).

Does it mean I won't be able to play EVE with my limited user account's credentials (Windows XP) which is the case in many other games? Until now I downloaded patches from the main site or started the client with administrator's rights (otherwise it didn't work at all; EVE Monitor, for example, asks for credentials after downloading a patch automatically). I'm not that crazy to work on a standard account on a daily basis like most people do.

As a newer player, I really have no opinion as to the efficacy of the patching mechanism versus previous models. I have noticed with the previous Crucible iterative patches, that the patching system feels fairly clunky and inconsistent, the client does not auto restart when done, and it's hard to tell that the patches have even installed correctly without knowing what you're looking at.

So in that light, I really welcome a new launcher which will make the updating process more streamlined and less obtrusive to the player. Although I think I will petition that the three legged octopus be released from captivity and an alternate production method be devised.

Judging from the screencaps in this post though, I will say that the main launcher screen looks much, much busier. There's buttons and ads and reminders and news all on the main screen. In the current (old) launcher, there is one ad - which displays only once per ad - and a little grey news box and that's it. It's very clean and minimalist. I really hope that the final version declutters slightly, or at least provides us with an option to have a minimalist launching screen.

Is it me or does the new launcher look almost like the old?

Sure you can do this but make a option to close peer to peer because upload is not good here im my country let me say this we pay for upload so i like a options to disable peer to peer network. Without that i will ignore the launcher. and manual download the patch. But dont get me wrong here its just i dont pay for some one els.

There is currently no peer to peer implementation in the Launcher, the data you're downloading is still coming from our CDN just like before. And as you can see from the FAQ section of this very thread, there is no manual patches anymore, the only way to update the client is using the Launcher.

Okay this new launcher blows and making it mandatory blows even more.
Currently I use one install of the client and 2 junctions, I can start 3 instances of eve for my accounts with each having a different settings folder. Come patch day i put on the patch once. So your new launcher I am going to have to have 3 installs of a 4 + gig client in order to do what I do today and even worse download the patch 3 different times, way to make it complicated and a space hog.

In order for this "new and better" way of starting Eve to be worth anything it HAS to be able allow for multiple accounts with different settings for each account. It HAS to be only one install of the client but still able to run multiple accounts.

And what about those who use 3rd party programs as launchers E.G ISBoxer... which stores settings indipendantly of the client its attached to in order to maintain window sizes, positions of channels etc, last account login username etc so im able to log all of my accounts in quickly and be able to use them in a group like i do now.

Not happy about this at all. :S

Yer gonna be like wow now with you fancy pants boot loader. As I recall it wasn't all that great. IMO your time could be better spent daring each other to eat odd and grotesque things to see who vomits last. I want live footage. And when you do get on TV I want 10% Creative Licensing fee.

Well, I got it to launch from the launcher finally, and it turns out it was telling me the truth.

I ended up on Tranquility, just like it said.

If folks on the Windows side (or more likely on the Mac side) get the same thing at all it might be too soon to deploy it.

I use symlinks to run 3 clients from the same data. will this break symlink? I dont want 6gigs x3 clients no room for that and it is redundant.

reason for the sym link is I need to set a diferant graphics card to each client but I want only 1 set of game files. please think about this.

I run several accounts from one client install, no special changes to the shortcut for each login. It works great, only one patch to install (just run one instance first on patch day, then when it's updated, run them all). Always has worked anyway, and having logged into singularity on 2 accounts after the first launcher update, it still works.

Unfortunately, now the launcher is broken, it keeps patching my singularity install to tranquility, preventing me from successfully logging into singularity.

Windows Vista (insert obligatory vista suxorz spam here, I can't be bothered to install wine and multilib or I'd use slackware for eve, like everything else).

What am I doing wrong? My sisi shortcut looks like this: "E:\Program Files\CCP\EVE - Copy\launcher.exe" /server:Singularity
When the shortcut was: "E:\Program Files\CCP\EVE - Copy\eve.exe" /server:Singularity
all it did was demand to update as it was the wrong version, then download nothing and start the launcher, which connected me to tranquility.

E:\ being the 2TB external raid array, stripping the annoying occasionally default (x86) from the end of program files so I don't have to dig through both x86 and 64 bit installs for whatever I may be looking for.

Repair tool seems to try to patch back to tranquility, judging by the bold in the following:

Restoring folder: "E:\Program Files\CCP\EVE - Copy"

The fact that manual patch downloading will disappear is a bit worrying.

For those of us who aren't in the first-world, but work in offices that have a decent connection, we could download the larger patches manually and bring them home to install.
EVE doesn't work through a proxy server, so even though the launcher would give us a transferable patch file after download, how are we supposed to get that file from behind a proxy?

Has the launcher been developed to allow connection through a proxy?Question

For now, I would guess that ISBoxer can work around the EVE Launcher, but that's not going to work forever, since when we release a patch, the bypass that is being suggested in this thread (executing ExeFile.exe directly) won't work; your client won't be updated, and you will have to start the Launcher anyway.

We also have designs on moving the login mechanics into the Launcher at a future points.

CCP Cascade asked about the reasons people have for requiring multiple installs in the dev blog thread here, so it is something we want to accommodate properly. I don't think it should really be necessary to mess around with junctions, or multiple installs simply to have full control over your clients and their settings, but that's something that we'll cover in the future, once we've got some sensible designs for it.

As I said in the devblog thread here, junctions work just fine, and you will not end up with three installs.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question. The Launcher creates a patch that you can simply copy to a USB drive, and take that with you. The proxy should only be an issue for connecting to the internet, and since the Launcher is using ports 80/81 that might not even be that much of an issue.
