My wife just got this game for me and I just signed up yesterday. I was wondering if there is some kind of a corporation that is all about teaching new guys. So far I'm not impressed with the tutorial education but am continuing on. Also the people in the local and corporation chat window don't seem to be too interested in chatting.
Not sure what direction in game I will go yet.
Thanks

Eve university is a very large organisation dedicated to training new players http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Applying_to_EVE_University

Take anything you learn there with a pinch of salt however, they mean well but aren't the brightest bunch. They do give a good grounding in the basics.

Local chat is absolutely not the place to ask for help, people are as likely to trick you as help you. The noob corp chats are full of spam and people in similar situation to yourself and you wont get much help there either. The Rookie chat channel does give good help with basic game mechanics from gms etc but is often too busy to even get your question noticed.

As for the tutorials they are pretty solid these days, make sure you have gone through them all including the career agents.
