While many EVE Online players aren't thrilled with DUST 514's PlayStation 3 exclusivity, there may be hope for a PC release yet. And while the devs weren't ready to make any official statements on the spot, a bit of wink-nudging indicates that a PC release may still be in the cards. As the devs note, mouse and keyboard controls are already supported in the PS3 version of the title. "I wonder why we did that," Hilmar joked during the interview.

I remember reading in an article, if sales are strong on the PS3 then they'll release the PC version. Either the PS3 version is a port from PC version or the other way around. The bigger question is, will the player who get in on the beta have to buy the retail version when it comes out. (think twisted metal for PS3 when they disabled the demo on release day.)

They have indicated from start that voice and text comms would be possible.

A keyboard is a useful tool for entering text.

And it's also well known and public that they are using the unreal 3 engine, so going multi platform is about business, not that much about technology.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Bet there is a considerable wait, even if a "nudge and wink" can be taken seriously.

I think it's a case of "wait and see"

CCP will be looking at having at least 10 thousand DUST subscribers, at which point they will release DUST for the PC.

The PC version should already be in their business model, not doing so would be very shortsighted.

I would not be surprised if CCP already had a PC version waiting in the wings, probably early Alpha. The odds are in favour of this.

To be honest, Massively is making a big jump saying that there's more potential for a PC version like this. There always was the potential for a PC version as people have said with the Unreal engine, but I don't think that Hilmar's answer gives any more weight to that possibility. I think he's just insinuating that they added the keyboard and mouse option due to the number of EVE players that would want to play with it.

Well, if we are in to predicting the future, I predict a few hundred console kiddies get scammed out of thier Aurum and the whole thing implodes because Console kiddies have a million other games just like Dust, the walk like dust, the shoot like dust, that just don't give a **** like Dus.

This looks like a job for EVE so, everybody just follow EVE because, it would be so empty without EVE.

A few years ago Rahul Sood published a post where he alleged Microsoft canned a project that would pit XBox gamers against PC gamers. (His original post is here)

There was a project that got killed at Microsoft. This project was designed to allow console gamers and PC gamers to interact and battle over a connected environment. Personally I wish it would have stayed the course. I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their "console" controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse.

The console players got destroyed every time. So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative. Is this why the project was killed Who knows, but I'd love to hear from anyone involved --- what happened?

Now gamers would know you just don't get the same sensitivity with a controller as you do with keyboard and mouse. If they were to release a PC version of Dust, how would you account for this?

FWIW I haven't played a PC FPS since Duke Nukem. The original Duke Nukem. Even though I have a PS3 I don't play many FPS, and I can't really see myself playing much DUST regardless of which platform it's on. I don't think CCP are aiming DUST at the average EVE player, and making a FPS a PC game is no guarantee of success.

When it comes to FPS, consoles are where the "**** you" money is.

It's coming out for the PC, they just can't announce it for an agreed upon time. I'm sure in 6 months, you will hear a date for the PC version.
