Not enjoying Battleships, how can I progress?

I am flying Caldari/Minmatar BS's in Level 4's and I am just feeling like I enjoy flying faster ships. Can I do that and still progress through Level 4's or are there other good combat isk making options?

In before Tengu (don't think I have the skills for that, beyond just the time required)

fly machariels. They're battleships and they're fast.

Or stop doing lvl 4's.

Mach, with an MWD: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/58393-Machariel-Level-4-Blitzer-MWD-Web-EW-Drones-Minmatar-Space.html

Firepower of a marauder, agility of a cruiser, faster than an AB Frigate.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

I do very much like Mach's forgot about those. So say I wanted to stop doing Level 4's, what are other decent methods for a somewhat low SP pilot to make money on part with a level 4?

Do incursions, wormholes, or FW missions

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

Exploration is a good place to start.

Everyone is giving superb suggestions.
To expand on what has been said:

Lvl4 missions: Machariel great suggestion. Or Ishtar. Ugh drone training.
Incursions: Machariel great for this too.
FW missions: I'd wait till changes to FW in Inferno.
Wormholes: Get a T3 cruiser, join a WH corp. Ah, saw your Tengu comment. So maybe not yet.
Exploration:

  • Train Astrometrics4 AstroRangefinding/Pinpointing to 3/4. AstroAcquisition only saves you seconds during the scan itself. Nice, but 1-3 in this is good enough at the start.
  • Hacking/Arch/Salvaging to 3 is good enough for a start.
  • You can use cov ops to scan (bonus covers low astrorangefinding skills) and AF/cruiser to do the sites at first.
  • ISK/hr very unpredictable, depends on loot. Hi-sec income will be pretty low, you need low-sec to get better loot.
  • Mag/Radars easier, complexes need tougher ships to complete but may yield nice faction.
  • Scanning is surprisingly fun but some like it some hate it.
  • 8 cube (with astro 5) is best but 6 probe shape (astro 3) will do. 4 or 5 cross method wastes probe catchment area and probe strength (after apocrypha changes). Just google youtube exploration 6 probes. Convo me if you need further clarification.
  • Shift and Alt are your friends.

All in all, since I predict you want a change not more of the same, try Exploration and Wormholes to refresh you with different types of experience.

You can get in to Gila(low skill to fly) and make mission lvl4 or exploration and make bilions...

Because a droneboat isn't more boring than a turret/missile ship Roll

All good suggestions.

Also consider doing exploration (mag/radar/combat sites) as well. L4 missions are about the most boring way to make ISK next to mining or ratting.

There are plenty of things to do in Eve that work well (or better) with smaller ships.

Ive found that switching professions every few days/weeks whatever to be the best way to keep from getting mind numbingly bored. However i do have a fair amount of sp so maybe its just how long ive been doing all these things.

~Mission till im bored and/or over 500 mil
~Scan till i find some nice piece of shiny and/or i get blowed up and/or cant find anything worthwhile
Or take 50 mil fit a ship and jump through wh till i get killed, its more interesting then you'd think and sometimes you get deep into an unfriendly alliance's space.
~Incursion till i get bored and/or over 500 mil
~on occasion ive been known to mine, however i wouldnt suggest it unless you have a corp that does it behind you.
~Industry, with Production efficiency 5 you can do a lot of things. youd be surprised
~camp a hisec static plex for a bit, its boring but can yield some interesting things, (and a lot of crap modules)

i've never done fw

Alts are very important. sometimes they farm pi for you, other times they do pos upkeep while you are out farting around. other times they are who gets killed 50 jumps into 0.0.

If youve never done it, go talk to some Russian miners out in the drone lands, or watch some PL super storage pos. go on a quest to find chribba, or see the evegate.

its best to do this sort of thing before your clone gets too expensive.

I would like to second this statement. Its really hard to want to go galivanting out into the unknown when your pod costs 20+mil before implant costs...

By which you mean Nighthawk and Sleipnir?

This is true, but they're a longer train than the already-nixed Tengu. Both are fine ships for L4s and have uses in other PvE as well. The Sleipnir in particular is actually a decent L4 boat, easily outperforming any standard Loki. A decent Machariel will wipe the floor with it though.

100 mil per implant and these 20 mil appear like peanuts. :)

If you want to try smaller hulls, try the Loki (possibly faster to train on the way to Command Ships, but more expensive) or the Sleipnir (might take quite a bit longer to train). If battleship size is okay, try the mentioned Machariel (although with better and better skills I find myself actually using it's speed more and more seldomly).

Exploration can be fun and with some luck you can make 50-60 million within minutes (even in high-sec), but it really depends on where you are (high sec islands and low traffic systems can be very valueable).

Jump Clones. Jump Clones. Jump Clones.

Exploration is the easiest to get into after missions. as it has very little time investment, everything is on your schedule. you still have to compete with every other scanner but you can go and search for things when ever you want. Isk is hit or miss low time involvement

Wh exploration can be a great way to experience a wider view of eve small gang, bubbles, pos seiging, scanning, pos upkeep, logistic trains, transients . It can be a good isk source, but requires a bit of planning, friends, and logistics and market research. a bit more skill intensive then the other options. generally you want to do exploration for a while before you live in a wh, as its the most important skill set you will use in the wh.

FW tends to destroy your standings with two of the four empire factions. very bad if you want to go exploring and peple will shoot at you in hisec. Isk is fairly consistent sometimes hit or miss, lot of market watching medium time involvement

Incursions are the easiest consistent isk. but it can be a pain to get into fleets and for many fleets very specific fits are needed. Logistics are the easiest entry without a bil isk ship. generally expect to spend at least two hours doing incursions, good isk but a bit more time intensive.
