Need Rx for chronic low DPS

Hype being "bad" comes from before the hybrid buffs, if you compare them now to a Megathron (or even navy Mega) they're actually quite good these days. You ofcourse lose out on the tracking bonus (which can greatly affect your applied dps) but with 2 TCs AND a web it's fine tbh. DPS is better than a mega and even a navy mega in realistic PVE fits, tanking is also above par.

I ran the numbers and went "wtf, this can't be, the Hype is supposed to be crap!". Have a look here.

Definitely grab the last drone and a few levels of the drone support skills. Even if you don't go to T2 drones right away, being able to field a full flight of lights will make life a hell of a lot easier against frigates than the lone smartbomb will. For missions stick with lights (the 5m3 drones) for a while and use any extra drone bay for, err, replacements. Mediums (the 10m3 drones) can become useful to chew through a cruiser while you're working on other stuff but it sucks to get caught with them out and *really* needing a scrambler dead.

Guns- 425s are nice and sexy and all the popular kids have 'em. Meanwhile, 350s do almost the same DPS with any given ammo, and in missions the shorter range can actually be a "plus"- they still fire further than you'll ever need to, the step-down in ammo will only in extreme cases ever be below thorium (you'll want to carry AM/Thorium and either Irridium or Tungsten, whereas with 425s you'd carry AM and maybe a bit of Thorium. Either way you fire mostly AM), and in return you don't have nearly as much trouble when targets are in close. And by close I mean <50km. Best of all, they're easier to fit, which is REALLY nice while you're working your skills up.

Sell back the DG guns regardless of which size you go for, though. Use the money on Prototypes, and the best "rest of the fit" you can afford.

I've got a tracking implant plugged in, and even with dual scripted TCs I find the tracking of 350mms on Hype abysmal. 425s certainly can't hit anything in web range.

I've been trying to make the Hype work in C3 sites, it's a gorgeous hull. Unfortunately it just doesn't cut it, the tank works but killing stuff remains an issue.

As what comes to that maxed Hype fit, here is a Domi that does comparable DPS but applies it twice as precisely against anything smaller than a BS, tanks better with better cap life and costs only a quarter of that Hype's price while requiring no implants.

I don't want to bash the Hype, but for PvE there are better choices. For PvP as well :(

The Hype still is limited in use (just as the Rokh) compared to Abaddons and Maels but it's not as bad as it was. And the "Just forget about the hype" isn't warranted anymore, at least not in armour fit for PVE.

It can hit upclose cruisers stuff just fine within web range with 2 tracking scripts, and all serp cruisers orbit close enough to make that happen. Anything bigger gets hit hard whatever they try to do. Also: some manual piloting to lower transversal, even if just a little bit, does wonders. Doing lvl 4s is entirely different from doing sleepers though so yeah there's it's really not that good.

Actually, if you have 2 domis in RR fit you can duo C3s amazingly well, and super cheap. Apart from that I'm not a fan of drone boats, as silly as it may sound as you lose so much time with aggro control and all that. Also, switching drones to kill small stuff like scram frigs means you lose the majority of your dps for a while, turret/missile based ships do not have this issue and generally end up being faster at completing missions for exactly that reason.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Yes, I've used the RR Domi duo in C3s for a long time and it's stellar, but solo the Domi can't tank enough omni dmg, and sleepers start targeting sentries without RR on field. Dual repper Hype tanks really well and has no problem popping the battleships, but is completely helpless against sleeper frigs- drones don't do enough dps and it can't hit them with guns.

True about the difference, I forgot that sleepers go a lot faster than mission rats, so you might actually hit them with 425mms.

Dropping a shield gank Hype at 0 on sleeper BS is amusing, though :D

Hey, thanks everybody for the ideas. Acting on some of the suggestions I'm up to 628 total DPS. I'll sign up for EFT and keep on the skills

I am now a lion among men. Appreciate the help.

Just remember - in eve, bigger/more expensive is not always better. You can spend lots of isk for something that is basically overkill for what you need to do. It appears that is what you have done here.

Honestly, I can't believe you were flying that ship around solo in lowsec. So damn juicy. You are very lucky sir. ;)

My advice, park it, buy some dominix, and get a bit of experience under your belt. Read some fitting guides. This isn't the best, but it's a start:

Good luck.

If you continue to insist flying that in lowsec, please bring it to black rise.;)

spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
