I remember when I was working a World Wide Major IT Support Company and each RSA Token cost them £80 each and that was nearly 8 years ago so can see how that would be the case.

Just because stuff costs £80 8 years ago - does not mean that it will cost £80 today. In fact the commonly used Digipass GO # series authenticators seem to be readily available for $30-$36 USD in single units.

Buy 55, price drops to 27.44, buy 1000+ and the price drops to about $12.50 USD.

I would imagine that there are easily 1000 EVE users who would use a key fob.

If they were available, I'd definitely use one.

I can hardly wait to add in another layer of crap to switching between characters on multiple accounts; what fun!

This is a great idea, but only really necessary for a game with a high risk of hackers or keyloggers. I.E. WoW. I know a co-worker walks around with one of those for his WoW acct. He bitches about it constantly whenever he logs in at work. While I play EVE without the need for a keychain. It was funny as **** when he "loses" it and cant log in.

On a side note
Also, pick a more orignal name?
Stargate only worked well with Universe, the others (with Jackson) made me want to smash my face against a brick wall...

CCP should rely look into the idea of having authenticators for logging into the game, for some that dont know what it is, its a program on ur phone or a little key chain thing, that makes a code that is around 6 digits long and changes every 1 min or so, it's rely good for helping stop hackers or unwanted people on your account.

I think this is some thing CCP should have looked into a long time ago its rely easy to do and will help the players a lot in keeping there accounts more safe, your better to be safe then sorry I say.

This is not WoW and CCP did not make the incredibly stupid, Internet 101, mistake of changing to email addresses for account names AFTER the accounts were created.

Authenticators are not needed if your security is not crap.

Better to be safe then sorry as I said already its some thing rely simple they could add to a phone app for people that want it, I'm not asking to make it a thing u have to have to work ur account but a thing you could have if you want it.

And I can already tell you know very little on security, because you can be a smart as and have all kinds of firewalls and stuff on your computer but things do happen that can lead to getting some thing on your computer your never a 100% safe.

You sir are correct in saying that at some point in time your account somewhere will be hacked. But less you control the key fobs is such a way to to never lose it or provide a way in which the hacker can not remove it than it is entirely useless. To make this point you have to think of this

How can you make an authenticator that can be replaced when lost but not be abused by account hackers. If you can answer that question you will be the richest man in the world.

They have not been forgotten about :)

Expect an update with ballpark deployment dates at Fanfest this year. There's a number of additional security enhancements which have already occurred. What we will also explain is what the delay was, as there was a lot that had to change on the backend in order for this technology to be implemented at all.

I'm really swamped today so I can't watch the thread but the above is when you can expect more information.

You do realize that the "original" stargate series was a spinoff from a movie in the mid 90's...

Why don't they just release an Android/iPhone app like Blizzard/Trion/Bioware and only cost them a license fee and no hardware...

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN AUTHENTICATOR
1)Buy USB Flash Drive (<=1GB)
-->Floppys, Zip disks also work well for this
2)Smash keyboard until you have a password at least 50 characters long.
-->example: oijaewraoijet3huq4298FRHUFKJasdfauhweflasdfhaiewkaweiouhfwa9h98234hwdfioj23r90g
-->Make sure to check for illegal characters. Also add a few Caps.
3)Save password to a .txt file on your preferred media device
3.5)Change your EVE Online account password to your random password that you've just generated.
4)Launch EVE.
5)Copy and paste password into password field
6)Enjoy.

NOTE: If using a floppy, store near magnets to prevent data loss.

Not everyone has an Android or iPhone.

(My personal price point would be anything less then a PLEX's value - maybe with the option to purchase using a PLEX.)

Yeah, but some of us won't carry hardware either. I have both WoW and TOR authenticators on my Droid. If you think I'm going to carry a keychain for EVE... sorely mistaken.

lol...they are called RSA Tokens or just Tokens for short. I have one for my job for all sorts of security crap.

CCP has also already been working on this. What is taking them so long? Who ******* knows...it isn't rocket science or nothing. Not sure why they haven't gotten up and going after showing it at last years fanfest.

I figure it has something to do with the new launcher and wanting to get that up and running first. It will be a lot easier to implement RSA Token keys into a launcher.
