When I play CoD and find a fighting position i can defend Im called a camper and am expected to rush headlong into the enemy screaming banzaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiii

I wish there was an actual game where proper military tactics are used .. I guess that might be AAO but never tried the latest version.

There was a game on PC called ARMA 2 (3 coming out soon I think) which works on the same programming as some military training software, the only problem with this series of games is that, like RL combat, there was a LOT of time between fire fights where nothing is going on but walking around, but did draw in a lot of people who liked using military tactics.

I'm hoping that Dust will make a middle ground between the ARMA series and games like Bf 3, meaning that you can still use military tactics but also have action from the start and not have to travel 50km across a map to the fire fight only to find its over by the time you get there.

Sorry but file “forumsig.GIF” is currently unavailable please come back later…… like in a year or so.

military tactics in the same sentence as BF3,, oooohhh, so so wrong,, lol

let's hope it's nothing like BF3 and more like DOD/TF2/ARMA II all pretty good fps games with decent if not great team work needed.

The reason console FPS players tend to switch to a new FPS game every couple of months is because there is a new one being released every couple of months, and they aren't designed for longevity. Dust will have far more replay-ability than any other FPS on the market, it's like all the Call of Duty games rolled into one. And best of all, its going to be free. It might not attract all of the COD crowd, but it will attract some of them, and as long as it is a good game in its own right, and has compelling game play, it will keep them. It's also going to attract those who can't afford to be buying a new game every 6 months just because the developer wants to charge $50 for what is essentially an expansion pack for the previous title in their series. i don't play console shooters because of this, I refuse to support them, so I don't own any of the COD games

In modern shooters, lone-wolf playstyle often has the most consistent rewards. There are plenty of games that try to steer the other way. MAG, Team Fortress 2, and Tribes: Ascend, for some modern examples.

Not heavily advertising DUST might be a good opening move. It's already guaranteed a small starting pool from EVE players. The first few months can be like a public "post-beta" test. Once it has an established community, with initial bug-fixes, balancing, and feature iteration, then heavy marketing might begin. I guess we'll see. I intend to play regardless. Besides, it's free now. Awesome!

I don't see Planetside 2 as a threat to DUST. Different platforms, and (slightly) different goals.

DUST on PC would probably be easy from a code standpoint (Unreal Engine is pretty flexible), but I want to see CCP come up with a phenomenal, industry-shaking anti-cheat solution before it happens. Kill/death ratio won't be the only thing on the line...

@My Neutral Toon: Be sure and upload to YouTube when you fire orbital lasers on one screen that hit on the other.

hahaha that would be epic if i could fraps that but the ps3 runs on the HDMI input so I have to change over from PC to HDMI on my left monitor.

I could use my android's video camera though I guess. :)

I regularly will mine during slow pvp days while i play saints row or something at the same time. on comms with my corp mates the whole time..

Just get a TV capture card for your PC with a HDMI input. Easy. Though you will likely need a beefy computer to record both at the same time.
