so, today i upgraded my OS from windows vista to windows 7 (because vista is terrible) but now my eve client doesn't run. When i try to run it, the splash screen comes up, but then the full client fails to load. the exe file still shows as running in my task manager but i see no evidence apart from that. i have tried running as administrator, and setting compatibility settings to vista and XP, and have updated all my drivers but all to the same result. Im running a laptop with these specs :

Processor: 2x Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4 GHz each)
RAM : 4GB
Graphics card : 2x NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT

Apart from the OS, nothing much has changed since i last ran it earlier today, anybody know why this is happening and/or how to fix it?

EDIT : I am able to run other games such as battlefield bad company 2, so dosent seem to be a problem with my hardware/drivers

You could also run the LogServer alongside the client, when you start it up. There might be something that's shown there to help us debug the issue.

ill try that, however i have found that the client will work, but only if i use grismars eve launcher. I can now play it but its annoying to have to use 3rd party software when i dont need to

Strange. I wonder what it's running to invoke the client, that differs. Off to Google I go ...

I experienced same issue when moving the client around. Fixed it by reinstalling the client with the installer.

I believe the installer does something (registry? user folder creation?) that is required for the program to run correctly and just starting the client EXE doesn't fix that, so the only way to sort it is a client install.

Would be nice if EVE again functioned like it did in the past (=runs fine from whatever directory you copy it to, recreating anything missing in registry/user folders on startup). I mean, World of Warcraft can do this highly technical and complex feat, so why not EVE - especially as it could do it in the past? :D

(Yes, this is a taunt towards the CCP code guys to Fix Their Stuff...)

Edit: An easy way to duplicate this; Take a system that has no EVE installed. Copy EVE folder from another system to this system, try starting EVE client. Splash -> dies.

(Expected outcome: Splash -> starts, while silently fixing whatever is missing)

That is very strange, since I run my own client from a non standard location, and I only ever unzip from the .7z fall back payloads. I've never had a problem, but I'd be really interested to know what exactly is failing for you.

Could you do me a favour, and try to reproduce the issue for me, on your machine, whilst running the LogServer at the same time. Onceit's thrown the error or failed to boot, save the file out and upload it somewhere that I can get a copy of it, and maybe there's something we can do about the error Smile

I have tried to recreate the error, but it seems that using the eve launcher has fixed the problem all together, when i try and run eve straight from the shortcut as i did before, it now runs fine. however i am seeing some setting losses every time i close the client, but its strange as some remain as i set and some i lose, do you still want me to upload the log server file?

If you have it, yes, that would be great. It might have been a permissions issue that the launcher has cleared up.

The problem with Eve not launching on a new install of Windows 7 is usually because DX9 didn't install. If you go into the .\bin\DirectX directory where Eve is installed and run DXSetup.exe it should fix the problem.

Eve launcher probably checks if DX9 is installed when it first runs and installs it if it's not there.

Windows 7 doesn't install DX9 support by default.

Just wanted to bump this because it fixed the issue I was having.

New install of EVE through Steam on a fresh windows 7 install. EVE would display the splash screen then nothing.

Running repair.exe and then DXSetup.exe fixed it, and it is working great now. For some reason, the game does not update or check directX when it installs.

Wanted to confirm that this worked for me too on my new computer. I stuffed up the Log Server so don't have that data for you, sorry.

I'm assuming if I copy F:\Users\**computer name**\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings, to the corresponding new location it will remember my overview settings and the like?

Bumping to confirm this issue. Copied EVE folder over to new PC running Windows 7, used the repair tool to make sure everything was in order, then tried to launch. After the splash screen, nothing, and client still running in background.

After reading this thread, I tried running the directx installer from the bin/ folder, and now it works fine \o/

this isn't really a bug but it's something i hate very much and want to change.

when you install eve correctly using the installer, the installer handles installing directx etc. when you copy the client to a clean OS odds are you don't have the correct version of directx installed.

when we start he internal client it does the check for us and installs directx if needed and i want to change the release client to work in the same way rather than letting the installer handle it. i'm unsure right now if it's planned to have the launcher handle it, would make sense i guess but if its not planned then i might just make the change to allow the client to install directx.

more on this soon i hope.

I have exactly the same issue, exept that i have a freshly buyed new computer with windows 7 installed on a new harddrive.
I've tried everything i've found on the web:

-update drivers
-launch as admin or xp compatibility mode
-update directx
-install directx from the bin folder
-install the game on another harddisk
-change my computer's name
-delete the cache
-update "MS .NET Framework"
-launch the game from grismars launcher

I wanted to post the log server result but "input can't contain html" appears.

I really don't know what to do know. I precise that i have two other games that work perfectly on this computer.

I hope someone can help!

Just upload the logserver log somewhere. If it isn't too long, you could put it up at http://pastebin.org or any other similar service.

Based on this log then the install is either broken (files missing) or needed files are inaccessible. In the EVE install folder, what is the content of the lib and script subfolders?

In the lib:
- carbonlib.ccp
- cabonstdlib.ccp
- evelib.ccp
script subfolders:
no subfolders!
only:
- compiled.code

If the install was not complete, that would be weird. I did it once with the installer and once with the installer and the two 7z files already downloaded => same result.

The first serious error there is

373 2012.03.05 16:41:47:630 ImportError: ('No module named _trinity', '_trinity', 'trinity')

which indicates either that C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\_trinity_deploy.dll was not found or has incorrect access permissions, or that DirectX is not properly installed. Try running the DirectX installer in C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\DirectX and see if that helps.
