Software for effective trading?

Hey all. I'm relatively new to EVE and I've been having a great time playing in the marketplace and making a good amount of ISK. My question is simple: For those who are serious traders, are there any (legal) software programs that make market trading a bit easier? I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for; I just want to know if I'm missing out on anything I don't know about. Thanks.

Personally, the only thing I use for trading is an array of google docs spreadsheets.

I also use EVEMON and that does have a lot of useful functionality for trading, but I don't use any of it. The only impact it has on my trading is that I can see the wallet balances on my alt army at a glance without having to log on to anything, which is pretty handy when you have over 30 characters.

I've tried most of the tools available but none of them have suited my needs. I tend to prefer web browser based applications because that simplifies a lot of things, particularly when you have a large number of computers in multiple locations from which you wish to be able to easily access and modify the same data.

Hi,
picking correct 3rd party tool which helps you conquer the market is not-so-easy task. Can you describe at least a bit what you're planning to do?
There's plenty of applications like EVE HQ, Eve Mentat, EMMA, ...
You can also use web-based services like Eve-Central, Eve Marketeer, or you can write your own application to help you with market decisions - Eve Technology Lab forum will certainly give you an overview of what can be achieved.

Well Bobby sort of answered my question. I guess what would be nice is a tool that enables me to see when I'm outbid on a buy/sell order in my station, or perhaps one that locates extreme differentials on buy/sell orders for an item that sells 50+ on avg per day in a particular station. Those are just a few ideas. I don't really need help sorting out alts because I basically only play one character.

I think someone made a tool (approved by CCP) that notified you when you were undercut, but it cost about 500m to use I think.

Eve mentat does the outbid notification, if you're in the same region.

Provided it has up to date market info Eve Mentat can detect orders you've been outbid on.

Eve mentat is pretty cool for keeping track of everything. Also use market quickbar shortcuts!

I'm having a problem with EVE Mentat. Where can I see what items I'm outbid on?

There should be a tab towards the top that says "Character Orders". There is will list all your open orders and should alert you to those that are expired or outbid (again, provided your market data is recent). Next to it there is a tab for orders you might have open on behalf of your corp.

Is there a way to mass-export my current market favorites?

Thanks David. I think I'm running into some import problems. It's claiming that there are no files to import, even after i hit export in eve.

I would make sure that Eve Mentat is looking at the same file that Eve is sending your exports to.

I've discovered that it is finding the file. However, something is still messed up because many of my orders are coming up yellow and red (prices too old to accurately reflect), even though I'm in the station when I export.
