null-sec ratting questions

Hey guys, I am going to move in the next couple of week in a null-sec system(-0.4 if anyone cares) with the corp, and I would like to have some advice on a ratting ship. I was planning on getting a wolf, I am only a few days away from being able to fly one. Is it tough enough to survive the rats I will farm?

My skills are very low, but I can fit mostly tech II on it and I was planning on getting a deadspace shield booster (gistii B/C type). The reason why I chose a wolf is because I want to slowly transit to a vagabond and eventually a loki. I know these two ships can easily tank/kill the rats, but I am not sure about the frigate.

Also, what isk/hour ratio should I expect once I get in null-sec? The system is in null-sov and is supposed to be quiet, in a dead-end.

Thanks for you time.

FIrst off, don't shield tank a wolf, it's just a bad idea. A decently fit Wolf should be able to belt rat just fine in nullsec. However, you'd probably be better off just grabbing a Cane and using that instead.

Get yourself a hurricane. Battlecruisers are fairly friendly to low-SP pilots. I wouldn't recommend trying to rat in null-sec in an assault frigate if you have low SP. Matter of fact, I wouldn't recommend it at all, unless you're bored.

And what ^he said. Don't shield tank a ship that has 2 mids.

You, have never rat in null packs of rats with 1.7 M bounty in an active tanked Enyo did you? Lol

If you didn't, herp derp fail? Blink

Null ratted for fun with Wolf just for lols in fits like that below.

Wolf can sig tank spawns fine by pulsing the MWD to orbit the BS/BCs at 500m.
The resists mods would be fitted according to the rats.
However, the problem is only 215 dps, with perfect skills, faction ammo and T2 guns.
This means you take so much time breaking tanks that ISK/hr income is horrible.
With T1 guns and low skills you might not be able to kill the BS.

I don't doubt the Enyo or Ishkur could do it better due to significantly higher DPS.
A Hurricane would also rat much more efficiently and profitably.

Active tanked Daredevil for same rating makes an good active tanked Enyo look like a water pistol vs a real machine gun Lol
You can put holes on those rats absolutely impressive (over 1K)

Haha blaster frigs sound fun for Null ratting. Hope that faction ammo is not required though, because AFs consume massive amounts of ammo. I would guess something like 300DPS would be needed to push ISK/hr to a decent rate.
200 DPS is borderline waste of time and 100+ DPS don't even bother.
Actually a blaster catalyst could be good as the new reduced sig size means it can sig tank decently now.

You get over 380 with a regular T2 fit Enyo and don't remember the exact number but a lot more from Daredevil.

PImp Enyo over 500dps witch is more than you can do with a sniper heavy assault ship, and Daredevil, well I just less you guess how much but it's really impressive.

I dont see how a DD would be better then enyo at dps with no bonus except the special and thats to counter that its only got 2 turrets.
And why would you fly a sniper HAC for pve?

Alright, thanks for the replies. I guess I'll stick to the BC plan, but I really wanted to fly a wolf. I pulled some numbers in eft, and I think I barely break 200dps. I guess I'll bring both ships. An enyo would require an extra 5 days of training for small hybrid to V so I'll consider it, it's just that it's gonna delay my vagabond plan :p.

Thanks

So you quickly find with ratting that the main thing that counts is DPS because otherwise it becomes a total drag. It's easy to have a tank that you can park under the noses of a fleet of rats with but if it takes a couple of weeks to pop them all then you aren't going to be earning much or having much fun.

BCs are certainly easier - 'cane if you like flying around, Drake for park in the middle and switch targets until they are all dead.

The loki is actually a little light on DPS too for my tastes but I'm quite impatient with ratting anyway

My "most fun but not overly practical" belt ratting ship* is the tornado though - loads of DPS and you can kite and move fast enough to cope with the damage. You do have to pay attention though: one stupid mistake and you'll be in your pod.

Plenty of wolves down in null and they are loads of fun to fly. See if you can get into some frig roams from in your alliance or corp - usually very entertaining.

I think the rats you face are important to the ideal ships to use.

I'm a huge fan of the Tier 3 BC's for ratting.... Especially against close range rats. You barely need a tank... You just warp in, snipe them as they approach, and hope to kill them all before they warp away!
