CCP should rely look into the idea of having authenticators for logging into the game, for some that dont know what it is, its a program on ur phone or a little key chain thing, that makes a code that is around 6 digits long and changes every 1 min or so, it's rely good for helping stop hackers or unwanted people on your account.

I think this is some thing CCP should have looked into a long time ago its rely easy to do and will help the players a lot in keeping there accounts more safe, your better to be safe then sorry I say.

Personally, when it comes to authentication devices, I would very much prefer to rely on SMS style authentication. I see it as a very secure and convenient way of making sure you have that added layer of protection without having to lug around an extra clunky device. After all, a lot of people have smart phones and I use my Android phone to provide authentication codes for both my main email account and my very important bank account.

Of course, considering that not all players have a cell phone, it's preferred to have this added level of security as an opt-in option.

PS: If someone steals my phone, I can just borrow a friend's phone or go to my computer and track my android down to within a few meters as most people nowadays install a tracker that can be used to assist police officers. The tracker I use even takes a photo of the thief. Alternatively, I could also call my carrier service to lock out the phone and prepare me a new one with a new number.

the FoB tokens are defeatable for sure but its better than nothing.
I think eve did their cost analysis and found out that the fobs where unlikely to save eve money in the long run (where as it can with wow with thier 10 million players) Fobs for wow are much much more expensive than thier selling prices.

Dust 514's CPM 1 Iron Wolf Saber Eve mail me about Dust 514 issues.

I remember when I was working a World Wide Major IT Support Company and each RSA Token cost them £80 each and that was nearly 8 years ago so can see how that would be the case.

This is not WoW and CCP did not make the incredibly stupid, Internet 101, mistake of changing to email addresses for account names AFTER the accounts were created.

Authenticators are not needed if your security is not crap.

They probbably a bit more expensive then after you slate it into customers needs and of course liscensing and small market providers doesnt help drive your 120$ price down at all as there is like... only 1 company that enmass buys these fobs?

Either way its mostly GM time vs Fob costs and how much you are willing to pass that cost onto the customer.

You can't engineer stupid out of people.

If I name my character Mr Epeen, my acct Mr Epeen and my password Mrepeen1 and I use the same password and acct name for everything I do (email, other games, facebook, etc) then it really doesn't matter what fobs or capcha type hoops I have to dance through. I will be eventually compromised.

A good percentage of the dweebs online today can be hacked in minutes because of the example I just gave.

So, I'm in favor of education rather than add another layer of inconvenience to logging in to a game.

To be fair, They have been handed out at fanfest since '08 every year. (Can't speak for ones before that.)

Yes! Lets try and save people from their own stupidity! It always works for the banks and governments so it must work for simple things like game accounts too!

Better to be safe then sorry as I said already its some thing rely simple they could add to a phone app for people that want it, I'm not asking to make it a thing u have to have to work ur account but a thing you could have if you want it.

And I can already tell you know very little on security, because you can be a smart as and have all kinds of firewalls and stuff on your computer but things do happen that can lead to getting some thing on your computer your never a 100% safe.
