A question related to mobs and fleets.

Basically my only problem with what happened was that i didn't really know that he can even do that because the mechanics of mission zones, mission items were not explained. (IE that mission events dont restart, when you complete a mission theres just one item, not one item per player in your fleet) but thats alright i dont really care about that.
My question now is about fitting. I purchased a thorax cruiser and i dont really know how to fit him for PvE. Most fits on the net are PvP and the ISK guide's fitting section is about about what goes were in general. It doesen't really give you a go to fit when you're not sure what to do etc.

What exactly am i looking for in this build? Blasters offer more damage but what happens when you rush into close range with your blasters and realize that you cant kill/tank your enemies fast/long enough. You''re dead. I also herd that you cant use microwarpdrives in deadspace. Railguns give you the option to kite but might not offer enough damage. What would you recommend?

railguns *should* be able to give enough DPS to kill L2 mission rats. However, always have a full flight of drones too.

Gallente primary weapon systems aren't "just" Railguns and Blasters ... but rather Railguns and drones, or Blasters and drones.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Yeah i didn't mention the drones because its obvious that im going to use them. So 5 railguns, shield tank or armor tank?(not sure which is better for this ship), a damage control, drones, maybe a target painter? Have i missed anything crucial?

Most general idea on tanking:

Caldari = shield
Amarr = Armor
Gallente = Armor
Minmatar = What is tank, I just outrun the bullets fired at me (aka speed-tank) / Some ships can be armor and/or shield tanked.

This served me pretty well for a long time

Hi slots:
Blasters for the DPS or rails for range. Meta 4 if you can afford it (3 if you have to skimp)

Mids
Afterburner (or MWD, but since MWD doesn't work in all missions)
Web
Empty

Lows:
DCU II
MAR II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
2x Hardeners fit to the rats you're encountering (e.g. Thermic if you're fighting serpentis).

Obviously if you can't fit T2, then the best named that you can afford/fit.

If you plan on using drones and doing pve I would encourage you to fly the vexor.

I know the vexor on the outside may not look as menacing as the thorax, but looks can be deceiving.

The vexor Applies more of its dps to smaller rats then the thorax can. Micro warpdrives dont always work in missions, so part of the time the thorax misses the mark on its microwarpdrive bonus. Not to mention not every missin needs you to use a micro warp drive. The thorax needs a web to really effectively apply its dps to small targets. The vexor doesnt.

If your running level 2's the vexor will make extremely short work of them. Soak up agro, kite, unleash drones. Rinse repeat. Youll just be flying around with your vexor as your drones smalls or mediums, rip the rats apart.

Then your well on your way to start commanding other epic drone boats, the ishkur, Myrmidon, and the Domi. If that isn't enough passively you've started to skill towards carrier.

As gallente I never complained about the earlier short comings of blasters, mainly because I hardly ever used them.

Vexor is more flexible in its fitting then the thorax. Theres only so many ways to fit a thorax, the vexor has tons of PVP and PVE fittings.

If you know how to kite properly you can even run lvl 3's in a vexor.

I think there are only one or two in existence, and they are in the hands of ship collectors. Unless you have a few tens of billions of ISK to blow on it, don't count on finding one :)

Okay, I guess "fewer than 20" is not "one or two", but still:

Quote:
Auctions for this ship have been noted to go at least as high as 25 billion ISK, possibly as high as 28 billion ISK, as of 2010.

Its ok i dont really give sh*t as a veteran mmo player im used to griefing. Dagan's got a hell of a capacitor though... I can sustain all of my modules for 30 sec he can do it for 5+minutes? Hell. Are NPC's limited on ammunition too? Il try buying him if not by restarting the mission will i restart the whole mission chain? Or whatever you call it in eve.

I was passing by one day and helped a young player with Dagan.

I was in an Interceptor (Crow with 3x Standard Missile launchers) at the time, so I was almost no help for doing much damage.

However, I could tank Dagan forever as he couldn't hit me as I orbited at nearly 5km/sec. I made sure to get the aggro first (Standard Missiles have tons of range).

After that it was just a matter of time before Dagan capped-out.

NPC have unlimited ammo though.

Trust is a hard thing to come by in EVE.
You have to more or less forget everything you know about online game players in general and think that everyone is out to get you for their own personal gain. You will find so many people that are looking to scam you,steal from you,trick you to get a km, just wants to make a young player angry, spy on you and in general just make your life miserable and seek your complete and utter destruction.

From what you have been saying so far im guessing your a former WOW player.. One of the major differenses is that in WOW you can just change servers if you do something to damage your reputation. In EVE the only real way to get rid of your reputation is to start a brand new character. This is why you need to consider what direction you want to go in very carefully. Do you want to be the low life pirate that gets his enjoyment out of stealing from noobs (similar to what you exsperiensed),or do you want to be a pirate that actually fights people who can fight back,or do you want to create your self a reputation as a major industrialist? There are so many options...
But anyway the point is.. The guy who "helped you out" is most likely just an alt and teh character will be deleted soon enough. If it is a player you can make it a goal to one day hunt him down and make HIS life miserable Blink

Just keep in mind that you can never fully trust anyone in EVE,not your long term friend,not someone you even consider as close as your real life friendsnot your CEO and not your directors. Anyone in EVE is capable of (and most likely will) do something that you consider backstabbing at one point or another and if your not prepared for this it will be mentally rough.

This dosent mean that everyone is bad. It just means that you should always expect the worst. As you play you will notice that people will feel the exact same way about you; Is this guy a spy? Is he a corp thief? Is he looking to join to blow up corp members for fun? Will he cause trouble?
Dont take it personal when people seem to act cold towards you. You will have a lot of trouble getting anywhere in EVE unless you have a certain level of paranoia Smile

Pick your corp carefully,pick your friends even more carefully and never ever trust anyone. If you keep that in mind,learn from the times you get scammed and robbed or betrayed you will do fine.

Welcome to EVE and i wish you the best of luck out there Smile

Post sounds a bit negative and harsh, but is actually a good constructive post.

+1 Nightcrawler.

I fly by the idea: Always expect the worst to happen, if it doesn't you are lucky.
