Unlucky or just the way things are now as the life in the industry world?

I've recently returned after a 3 year break. i've been back for 15 days. Day one fleet of 5 tried to gank me in highsec mining.I read about all the ganking and fiited a tank ahead of time. They failed thankfully.

Day 4, fleet of 2 tried to gank me in a hauler, they failed (armor tanked with a repper). Day 15 (today) jumping in to Bei in my Freighter I want to say a blob 0f 8-12? really no idea on exact number, tried to gank me. I had 35% structure left but made it. Concord to the recue once again. Repair bill was going to be 76m I ended up flying my main out to rep it. That took a while let me tell ya lol.

Wont even get in to the expriences i've had on my main in lowsec no solo pvp to be found at all and lots of roaming blobs :(

I was interested in getting more invovled in indy and mining this time around, mainly because I
dont have the time to commite to anything else right now. So far the risk of run of the mill normal operations related to that doesn't seem to be worth the reward. I tend to do my research and plan for the worse, so far i've been lucky. Never had any trouble like this before. This point I question if I should continue to move freight. Maybe just stick to local trading. I should note I was almost empty when I was attacked, I assume it was for the lols as the loot wasn't worth it. Lot of bcs wasted for nothing imo.

As for mining I wanted to give that a go and start building. Have a couple alts in training. However at this point I feel it would attract to much attention. Comes down to finding a dead area, which I haven't researched yet. Or 0.0 for safety. neither is what I want to do but adapt or die, right?

I took a break from game for a couple years for two reasons. The exploration changes. I have horrible depth perception and couldn't use the new system. I really enjoyed hunting those down, at the time I was in 0.0 and a group of us would get togather to take on the sites I found. Was a good night on vent, half drunk and tanking 30 BS waves while reds were popping up in local. Good times. The main reason was the lack of content for solo PVP. This time around I was more interested in trying diffrent aspects of the game. It's a bit of a learning curve but it's pretty interesting and rewarding when you figure out some things that work.

Indy is the way I want to go at the momment, more I learn and research the more interesting and appealing it gets however with the amount of attempts on my person, I just had to ask is this normal?

Ganking seems to come and go. January was pretty absent, but now it's extreme. There was a large group of folks that have been ganking expensive ships in high sec with the new cruisers. i.e. torndaos. The following is the math I saw in the article covering these gankers.

6 Tornados at 60 mil = 360mil Can take down a decent BS or frieghter... = 1bil.

From a killboard perspective that's good numbers.

Well, if you like mining and small gang pvp, you should look into Wormholes. It has that in spades.

1. Don't mine in hi/low sec
2. Only use tanked orca's corp hangar or cloaky ships to move expensive stuff -- and don't forget to activate active mods after each gate jump while at that.

I have to ask what you are hauling. I have never had an attempted gank on me. Lols only goes so far.

As far as mining, again...never even an attempt. Where the hell is all this going on?

I am really amazed that you have been ganked so much.
I am primarily indy and I have not been successfully ganked in over a year. only even been attacked 3-4 times across all accounts, all activities, in the last year.
I would definitely say this is not normal.
As another said probably someone trying to buff their kill board, it will not last as there is no profit in it.
I even regularly run low value high volume AFK freighter runs between trade hubs and have yet to get ganked in my freighter.

I do a lot of mining (roids and ICE) with 3 hulks and an ORCA and have yet to be ganked while mining. Lost one hulk last year during hulkagedon but only because I was stupid.

I look for quite systems to mine in not so much for safety but for fresh belts that have not already been picked over.

I moved half a bil in an indy with about 5k EHP on an alt yesterday and didn't get attacked.

ganking has been pretty heavy recently, I hadnt been in hisec for a long time and came back from 0.0 recently and it seems like ganking has turned into a full time profession.

I am guessing...totally GUESSING, that given the amount of concern over the issue that CCP might do something about this. I hope that it will take the form of a change to the bounty system. I dont think that just nerfing some of the popular gank ships OR buffing the tank of hulk is a wise choice and I also dont like the idea of buffing CONCORD, just seems sorta lame to me.

now letting me hand over my kill rights to my PVP alt? oh yea...letting me put out a huge bounty on the ganker that can only be paid out according to how much the ship he is in is worth? sounds delicious.

for now, fit a decent tank (sounds like your doing that) and watch local like a hawk. know your local friends and mark them as blue, when you see someone unfamiliar or see a familliar gank ship (destroyers, T3 BCs etc.) dock up or run to the POS.

btw, if you like the sound of hurting gankers by improving the bounty system, Hans is behind these ideas and is running for CSM, check it out.

To be fair the T3 BCs were CCP's gift to gankers. I'm slowly moving one of my alts towards a Freighter, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe I wouldn't be better off in an Orca. They can have more EHP at the high end and drop less of their loot.

I feel ya man. In the past 2 weeks, I have had about 7-8 gank attempts on my hulk/orca/retriever group ( all of which are me. Alts for the win ). But thankfully i keep a battlecriuiser and a shuttle in my orca and after I lost my hulk last week i immediately switch out to the BC/shuttle if anyone besides a barge or industrial come sin the belt. It all really depends on where you are in my opinion. dont mine close to low sec or a popular area. I have found a nice quiet little place to call home that only ever sees about 7-8 people in local and I know most of them. And for traveling, if you use a freighter, the trick is to filll the cargohold with about 1-2K m3 of useless stuff like marines, scrap metal in an individual pile. that way when they cargo scan you it fills up with about 60-70 items of nothing. That has actually helped me move over 4 billion worth of equipment without being ganked before. better luck next time man

wow sounds like a real spate of bad luck

good thing you were mostly prepared!

Only thing I'd add or reiterate is to not mine in popular areas - I actually watched a freighter get ganked yesterday o.O 20+ on one

I've been scanned a few times when hauling but not ganked (prolly cuz honestly I don't have crap worth it)

I'd just keep an eye on the map, on ships lost in the last hour, and the traffic as it were, in local, as others mentioned.

Better luck!

Dude you gotta stop mining in systems next door to Jita.

You know, if the new BCs mean that we can't bring freighter loads of goods too/from Jita, that is going to do some bad things to the EvE economy. Sometimes you just need to move 800k m/3 of trit.

Don't autopilot freighters with anything even approaching a gank worthy amount. Don't carry more then 1b per load in your freighter. If you really must carry more, use a webbing alt. Make it as hard as possible to make isk off the gank and the gankers will usually pick an easier/more profitable target.

Thanks all for the the responses. Appreciate some of the suggestions and guesses. Some fit well. I really hope they do something about the high sec ganking. It’s a bit unbalanced in terms of risk vs reward.

Before I left I was in a 0.0 alliance. I could plex/rat all day and rarely see a neutral or red in system. Making tons a lot of isk vs anything else I had ever done so far to date. The plex sites I scanned down especially. Very low risk if any. I would know far ahead of time if anyone was coming up the pipe line via the Intel channel.

Which brings us to high sec.
Mining/hauling isn’t a big isk maker but if you’re efficient at it, it sure does help. Mining upgrades, Survey scanner, Ice harvesting upgrades? Can’t fit those. Have to squeeze in every morsel of tank you have to improve your chances on a gank. Cargo extenders, on a hauler? Holy insta pop batman. Forget it make 6 trips instead with tank fitted.

Can flipping is here to stay I’m sure so I won’t touch that. However a tactic your miners could use is place the ore/ice directly in the orca. That would be great! Great enough to watch a smart bomb fitted battleship warp on top of you *click*.

Time to lose a high slot on your orca to fit a tractor instead. Because everyone is spaced 10km away from each other to avoid smart bomb attacks. But now you’re fighting can flippers again. No problem just setup secure cans then someone stop mining entirely to move the materials from the can to the station/orca, Don’t forget everyone is spaced out 10km from each other. Have fun.

The risk factor needs to be balanced in some way. Keep all the ganking but match the value of everyone’s time to the risk.
The rumor of CCP doing something about the ganking could be true. For one simple reason of subscriptions lost. I’m not talking rage quit subscriptions. Example I’m currently training a couple alts up for mining. Many people have multiple mining alts. If they don’t have any value due to the tank fits vs proper fits and the loss of value of the hulk/haul/cargo it has a high potential of being a isk sink instead or a very low margin of profit and a lot of time invested which in the end resulted to very little value and wasted money on alt account subscriptions.

With my recent exprience thus far, this alt right here has lost some value given recent events due to the risk vs reward. If it continues it may be in my best itnerest to cancle his subscription and just play my main toon only.

I gotta admit I'm with you here, I haul stuff in freighters constantly, I have mined for 6 years (albeit not in high-sec).
I have no idea about this stuff, but seems obvious to me the t3 BC's have made it all much worse going by reports.

I would suggest in general that you just move your operations if you can, to another system.
It might be that you are in the middle of a hornets nest, which is the reason why you are being ganked so much.

Find a quieter place, and more civil transportation routes, and you will get less ganked.

^^ This. When it comes to being a target of highsec ganking location makes all the difference.
