What happens when we group missiles together? Will we see all launchers fire simultaneously or will we only see one missile fly out of one turret?

They look like turrets. WHy not just create bay like doors opening and closing for all ships that utilize missiles.

There has been talk of the development of a "missile swarm" graphic used when firing linked missile weapons.

I don't think anyone knows if work has progressed on this to a realistic level.

It has been brought up before, but I would hazard a guess that it would involve more work to modify the model of the ship to accommodate a "bay" that opens as opposed to a turret that is simply added to existing hard points.

It also is complicated by how to handle different numbers of missile launchers added, although they could simply make it a matter of "anything more than one missile launcher added gets the same bay graphic"... which would be a little under whelming.

People really turn up their graphics and effects while fighting and zoom in on their ship? Shocked

In what game does this happen? Oops

Because it's a lot more work for a lot less flexibility and it would require coupling 3D modelling to balancing even though the two really have nothing to do with each other. Any time they change the weapon loadout stats of a ship, they'll have to remodel it.

Compare the Ferox (5 launchers, 6 turrets), the Nighthawk (6 launchers, 1 turret), and the Vulture (5 launchers, 5 turrets) — all of that based on the same hull and all of those slots could be swapped around or modified to fix some new and annoying balancing issue. They had to remodel the ships when doing so, the incentive for that kind of rebalancing drops sharply; if they just have to switch the numbers around in the database, and the turret models and functions for turret placement take care of the rest, they're not pitting balancing against the availability of 3D artists.

I just hope the firing effects of all ammo (projectices, hybrid charges, and missiles) get an upgrade. Its the weakest part of the graphics IMHO. Kindof ironic to have such great ship/environment graphics coupled with crappy firing effects.Sad

…since v3 apparently supports decals and on-the-fly retexturing, it shouldn't be that far off (unless you want them to always match the damage with the actual hits).

What did you expect they'd look like, port holes?

Well animated particle junk flying off when strikes are made against the hull and acutal more holes and the sort but yeah just reskins in a damaged state.

What you're talking about I think thats another 10 years down the road when they can get dots working right or other technolgies not yet available.

This is true. A lot of the missile boats would have bays deeper than their hardpoints would allow, leading to weird Tardis effects.

Come to think of it, the strike effects should probably be just that: effects from the strike, much like how we now have missile explosions and those weird shimmering effects from lasers and hybrids — not something that's really tied to the ship model.
