Also, seriously guys, tone down the thrashing. I could clearly understand Riverini almost throughout the whole session.

I understood all the words he used, but I still had almost no idea what in the holy name of Tzeentch he was saying.

On the audio side, it was clear that Mittani ruled the day,

however I and several other CSM candidates were blocked from asking any question in the Eve-radio channel, I understand there was issues with spam from supporters, but the channel kept getting locked down completely and despite requests to the moderators both in the channel and by other means I was not given the ability to interact.

As for the DJ - Skye has been performing for 5 years now, she started on the wheels of steel when she was 2 years old:

(and her dad has been at it since the mid 80's, he even used to DJ at parties in San Francisco with a certain DJ Malloc who went on to work at CCP)

As stated earlier in the show, questions were monitored and picked up from in game, irc, this thread on eve o, our facebook page, and twitter. If you had read the OP you would have seen such references as well.

I am also familiar with Skye's exploits on youtube, I've seen a few of her videos. Very cute. I have a 2 year old myself who will be playing Eve Soon(tm). She has co-hosted a couple times before bedtime already on the show. Big smile

Just today I read about a study about how this effect corrupts democracy. Many voters are equally unable to distinguish truly skilled candidates from incompetent ones, and good arguments from merely persuasive ones, and so their votes are based on rationalized but fundamentally emotional knee-jerk reactions. I think I'm seeing a lot of that going on here in Jita Park.

Anyway, regardless of how lopsided and unintentionally hilarious the debate was, Riverini did bring up one good point. EVE is being marketed the wrong way, to the wrong audience. It's a sandbox with incredible depth and complexity that sets it completely apart from all other MMOs, yet they try to sell it as some kind of a flashy spaceship shooter. Anyone joining EVE because they believed what they saw in the promo video is going to be disappointed. Marketing is beyond the scope of the CSM, but I'm glad this was mentioned in such a well-publicized debate that CCP was no doubt listening to.

It's nice to know that the new rookie ship idea came from CSM6, clearly showing they know nothing about the new player base.

Having a newer looking ship that looks COMPLETELY out of place against all other frigates is just stupid. So the first ship the new player buys looks completely different and worse not better than their weak ass rookie ship? WTF!! I would click quit by that point immediately.

This is about first impressions though. By the time the newbie has played a few hours to get into their next upgrade ship from the rookie frig, they're much more likely to have decided on whether they like the game and want to continue or not and will overlook the fact that there are other ugly ships later on. Plus, you don't get to choose your rookie ship, so if you're a Minmatar newbie you're getting the hideous Reaper model rubbed in your face whether you like it or not, but if you think the Rifter looks horrible compared to the Vigil or the Breacher you can pick between the T1 frigates on the market for the prettiest option - and when you're a newbie who doesn't know any better, whether you like the look of the model is likely to be one of the things that actually matters. ALL the ship models are going to get overhauled and prettified at some point, but rookie frigs are an option that would almost certainly have been overlooked in favour of sexier options if it hadn't have been bought up by the CSM.

Tyrannis was the "make the ships prettier" update and I think that we can still go a few years without another major art overhaul on every ship. I just think there are much simpler ways to give good first impressions than spending all the time going through the art process just to confuse new player's feelings about getting better during their first hour playing. If this was a call about; make the super-caps or the rookie ships prettier? CSM6 should have said "Neither! That is the wrong place to be putting effort into art when there are still a large number of issues that need to be fixed where sexy art is concerned. And if you have to improve some ships, do it to the other frigates so that when the new player moves into their second ship they feel awesome!"

Well made point, and good on you for re-raising it.

I looked up Eve not for the PewPew. But it was the GHSC heist that got my attention.

Thinks like that, the sov map, the empire building, the politics, manipulaiton, alliances, friends, enemies etc will get people in.

I think that Riverini's inability to communicate his ideas makes him a poor choice for the CSM, let alone chairman. I'm not advocating discriminating due to someone not speaking English fluently, but in this venue, politics, communication is the job, and he doesn't have the basic skills required

You wouldn't call it discrimination if the bus company refused to hire blind drivers, would you? Of course not, they lack the tools to perform the job. Same deal here. Politics means communication, and in this particular venue it means communicating in English. This is something that riverini is not truly capable of. The nail in the coffin is that he believes he is capable, as this debate was his own idea. This creates a huge gap between what riverini thinks he's saying and has said, and what's actually gotten to the ears of CCP, or in last nights case the other debater, Mittani. Who, obviously a fairly competent individual, was constantly at a loss as to the content of riverini's answers.

Wait... did you essentially say
"I'm not saying we should discriminate against riverini for not speaking impeccable English, but we should discriminate against riverini for not speaking impeccable English?

I know the word "discriminate" has a bad connotation to it, but let's call a spade a spade here.

Lets face it, this is basically a political race.
In political situations where dissagreements are liekly to arise, the person who can respond the quickest with a more eloquent answer is going to recieve more attention from both comrades and enemies alike.
This is fact.
In regards to issues raised however, both had legitimate concerns and answers.
Mit obviously has more experience due to his position in CSM6 but that does not mean you can discount a new candidate just because of inadequate experience.
One thing I do appreciate about the current CSM (6) is the focus on fixing current issues rather than moving on to game development.
This is an issue all MMO's experience at one time or another and it is of course nice to see the players being represented effectively by a rather elloquent bunch!
To Mit's ego: While it is not an issue it is something that should be toned down. I like to see our CSM presenting a professional front that represents the players best interests. THAT being said Mit knows how to play hardball, a trait that was heavily required for one of the first CSM's to be taken seriously. Also in his favor is it was nice to see a CSM'r making a public face for themselves, although not every one may appreciate the aura he gives off or every word that comes out of his mouth, we do all know who he is.
To R.sd.f, however you spell his name .. He is the head of EvE 24. A service which I as many enjoy being able to use free of charge daily. I would be concerned about his ability to broadcast his ideas and criticism as a member of CSM, as I imagine long term either CCP will get pissy about being represented in a bad light (legitimate concern), or even going so far as to manipulating public opinion to achieve his aims through a service established to entertain and provide information.
Lets face it no one likes media controlled by the government and this would be effectively what would be happening.

Just some of my thoughts regarding their debate, I have plenty more and would be interested to see more of what everyone else is thinking.
