Fiction Friday is a new regular feature of the EVE Online community team. Every two weeks we will select an article from EVElopedia Fiction Portal and talk about the New Eden lore and how it applies to the game. Of course, everyone is welcome to share their own knowledge on the subject as well!

CONCORD

CONCORD, or Consolidated Cooperation and Relations Command, is an international organization formed over a century ago in order to ease tension between empires and maintain peace in New Eden. Although this goal has been put to test several times (even resulting in a direct conflict between CONCORD forces and a joint Minmatar-Thukker fleet), the organization has so far managed to prevent an all-out galactic war.

Since its inception CONCORD has grown considerably, branching into numerous divisions. When capsuleers mention CONCORD, they actually mean DED, short for Directive Enforcement Department, the international police force of New Eden. It is responsible for tracking down criminals, and does so with ruthless efficiency. For many capsuleers who opened fire on other pilots in high-security space, a gleaming hull of a CONCORD battleship was the last thing they saw before they woke up in a cloning station. However, this department falls under intense criticism from pilots who claim that DED is more interested in punishment rather than crime prevention.

Another notable branch of CONCORD is the Secure Exchange Commission (or SEC for short), responsible for regulating the trade environment across New Eden.

Not true, as DED does not shoot capsules.
