[Proposal] Improve weapon sound effects

As discussed in this forum thread, weapons need better sound effects.

The latest CSM minutes told about some exciting changes in shipdesign, but didn't mention anything in the sound department. With the very beautiful new V3 graphics, the poor sound effects on weapons hurt even more.

When you read about your weapons (425mm Autocanons for instance), they are very impressive, and seem quite brutal. When you fire them, you get the same effect as when a very tall and muscular man starts to speak with a boy's voice. It's ridiculous.

Most people I have spoken with play EvE without sound. This is hard evidence that improvements in this department are needed.

Thus, I propose that the CSM brings this up the next time they meet with CCP.

"I will not hesitate when the test of Faith finds me, for only the strongest conviction will open the gates of paradise. My Faith in you is absolute; my sword is Yours, My God, and Your will guides me now and for all eternity." - Paladin's Creed

Pretty sure they already changed the sound effects a while back...most of them anyway. Sound is about at the bottom of the list for most everybody who plays EvE. Personally I would like to see some better sounds all around as well but I would say have CCP finish the V3's and ship redesigns before moving on to sound updates.

Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821

Most turret sounds are unimpressive and don't sound appropriate. The sound quality is a far cry from the beauty of the ships and nebulas.

You do not speak for the entire playerbase Vertisce... You speak only for yourself..

I use 180mm autos instead of the 220mm purely because the firing sound from the 220mm sounds like a flatulent mosquito.
And then there is the abaddons that greet you with the crackling soundeffects from the 1980's.

I wouldn't miss most of the weapon sound effects, though I don't think they're particularly bad, either. However I would like to state very clearly that I would not be a happy camper if something were to happen to my giant staple gun sound. (Medium Railguns)

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

Hehe this is one area that I can't really say I have an opinion one way or the other as I never play EVE with the sound on. Usually I am in fleet so I don't really want to hear anything other than who's primary and which carebear is looting/salvaging in the middle of the fight. Lol

+1

There's no rush to add new sounds, but this is something CCP should eventually look at. I think it makes it harder for new players to take the game seriously. The effects aren't bad. They're laughable. Reminds me of cheesy 16-bit console games I played growing up.
