Mobile POS?

Probably thought of before...probably will get shot down but I would like to see responses anyway.

Mobile POS would be a ship. Probably a capital ship in size but with 3 variations for small, med and large. 3 types for each race. Work exactly like current POS's only slightly smaller in storage capacity, PG and CPU and mobile. Maybe have them do a transformation like the Rorq does.

Obviously stationary POS's we have right now should be better.

Mobile POS's can have slots just like ships for fitting storage modules like ship maintanance arrays and the like as well as defensive modules in the highs. Weak and easily destroyed when not deployed but working working exactly like a regular POS when deployed only weaker. POS Mods would just be part of the structure. No parts floating out in space anywhere.

It would be benificial for smaller corps in WH space and useful for remote deployments in hostile 0.0.

Obviously a very rought idea but you get the idea. Any thoughts or suggestions for improvements? Troll away if you wish...god knows nobody can stop you anyway if you want to.

Thanks in advance.

im sorry what?
at least you were trying to be creative, ill give you an A for that.
but hoenstly, this would be a cap, so banned form highsec, would be gank-bait in lowsec, 0.0 prolly coudlnt eb arsed to use it.
and if you feel the need to use this in wormholes, there is soemthing worng, since it would be EASIER to just haul an ACTUAL POS (since you said regualr POS's woudl still eb better) and set it up on the hundreds of moons.

i would hate to be a copy cat but here it goes:
honestly this would serve no new purpose,a nd solve no current problem. implementing something for the sole purpose of "oh its cool" would add nothing but clutter, more imbalance, and/or be compleetly ignored, wasting developer's time.

No...wouldn't be useable in regular combat. Weapons would only fire in deployed mode. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that. Would still anchor to a moon just like a regular POS and have a deployment time of something like an hour. Items in the ship hangars would still be accessible while not deployed but otherwise it would be like a freighter that turns into a POS. The idea is to be temporary, easier to set up and take down. Frankly I would almost say just make POS's do this in general. No more flying a hauler full of POS modules out to a location. Just fly a prefitted POS ship to its location and deploy. Done. Undelploy and fly away when you want.

I see y our point in that there would be less desire for such an item with the regular POS's already as they are. So what if we just made mobile POS's alltogether?

Im gonna write this up better...lol...im at work...should have just waited till I got home for this one.

Why not just drop a small tower and a few days worth of fuel in an Orca? It'll do pretty much everything you seem to be talking about just fine and already exists in the game (or just a Carrier/Rorqual for jumping capability).

Well...yeah...kinda like that but without the need of an orca. Everything pre assembled as a ship and deployes with everything ready to go. No need to start placing module after module out floating in space.

It did occur to me that this would disable the option of targeting specific modules in space and shooting them. Soooo...the modules would deploy on thier on to set locations around the POS and still be individually targetable and destroyable.

Maybe if you defined a few points, it would make more sense than what MX already pointed out.
Having a small tower in an Orca is not a bad idea, so how would this be better?

Would it have a POS-like shield, inside which a mining op could be based?

Would it be able to store ships, items, or ore?

Going by the example of an Orca with a small tower, what can you offer that improves on this?

Maybe a means to repair, like armor and shield drones built into it, just throwing ideas out....

I will get it all figured out and repost in the original post of this thread. Basically it is as simple as take the current POS system...turn the POS into a ship that is pre assembled with the mods it needs just like a regular ship. Fly it to the location and deploy it. Still has the bubble, fuel requirements, and everything like a regular POS does. Whether you have hangars, assembly arrays, refiners and guns depends on if you fit them to the ship before it was deployed. Once deployed it acts just like a POS does now. Benifit over doing this with an Orca? You don't have to store the Orca in the POS or elsewhere when done. Also the Orca wasn't designed to be a POS deployment ship.

Wow I just posted this idea basically last week but I said a pilotable mobile station like deep space 9 from star trek...no one can be original I guesd

Nope. There is no such thing as original anymore. I don't recall your thread but it doesn't look like the idea is one that would get much support anyway.
