okay

#1 - solo ganking a tanked hulk in a 0.9 is a pain in the ass, you won't get enough volleys off to pop it. it's not easy, and it's not worth experimenting with until you learn the ropes - perhaps you can try ganking macks in 0.6/0.7 sec systems?

#2 - thoraxes will do the trick. if they're buffer tanked to hell, you need alpha, so get some cheap tornadoes. don't insure your ships, you won't get a payout. also, scan scan scan and if you don't think you will overcome a target's tank, don't bother trying.

get faction ammo, use gunnery hardwirings if you can afford them (you will hit -5, so get used to warping out fast when your target's down) and consider using capacitor boosters if you're using blasters - concord will instaneut you, so getting a burst of cap might let you get the last volleys off to kill your targets.

if the hulks' pods stick around in the belt and stay within range of asteroids/ice when you bump them, use the report bot function.

It will be quite hard to suicide a TANKED hulk solo, as with two invuls and heat dissipation it will be up to 10k EHP. As above guy said Tornado will be ship of your coice, but im not sure if you can field 5k alpha, and i doubt you will be able to fire a second round in 0.9 because of quick concord interferance.

Probably a skilled Typhoon will do the job, or you think of somthing like smartbombing. As i have no idea about smartbombing, and the Typhoon is a minnie ship, my thoughts might not help much further.

Haven't I said this already?

What guns and mods?

Is that for solo gank or for team gank with my brother?

1400 artillery in the highs
gyros in the lows
common sense in the mids

1 to alpha an untanked hulk, 2 for almost any other hulk.

There isn't really a cheap option for 0.9 space, unless you have 4 or 5 characters to throw at them at once.

If you're not using t2 guns, always use faction ammo for a gankship, you won't be using much of it anyway.

Edit: t2 damage mods for the lowslots are an easy train, and really not too expensive for a gankship.

Ok Gotcha. Just out of curiousity we do have 4 accounts. Whats the cheap way with 4 toons?

Thoraxes for particularly well-tanked hulks, catalysts for anything else.

I knew I needed a goon =P

I actually have a heavily researched thorax BPO. Me and bro could field 4 thoraxes easy. Maybe we'll try that first. However Grumpymunky your advice has not gone unheard. I'm training for tornadoes as well.

Don't violence me bro!

I'm not sure how effective thoraxes will be for tanked hulk ganking in 0.9 as I haven't tried it. I always go with alpha especially in 0.9 where concord jams you before you blink.

OK mate, here's what you're after :)

Concord response time in a 0.9 is pretty much instant. If you're really lucky you might get two rounds off in a 'rax, but your best bet is alpha damage. For a low-skilled player the best and quickest boat to get into for this is unquestionably the Tornado.

Here's a cheap Tornado fit.

1400mm Gallium Cannon, Republic Fleet EMP L

The midslots are to taste, but I've added the main 5 you will need. The Passive Targeter prevents your target from being redboxed until he's pointed, which is useful if he's aligned but not paying full attention. If your targets really are AFK bots, you can dump the sensor booster/PT for more tracking.

The training plan just to fit & fly this boat is:

Minmatar Frigate IV
Minmatar Cruiser III
Battlecruisers III
Target Painting I
Propulsion Jamming I
Long Range Targeting I
Targeting I
Trajectory Analysis I
Small Projectile Turret III
Medium Projectile Turret III
Large Projectile Turret I
Spaceship Command III
Gunnery V
Engineering V
Electronics II
Weapon Upgrades V
Advanced Weapon Upgrades III

(Science II & Cybernetics I for cheap implants: AX-1, CX-1, LX-1)

This will take around three weeks. But don't even bother trying a gank before you've also done:

Surgical Strike IV
Trajectory Analysis IV
Motion Prediction IV
Sharpshooter IV
Large Projectile Turret III

- which will take another 18-19 days.

You will now have a boat that on paper does 8,500 alpha damage and can put 80-90% of that hurt onto a stationary Hulk.

Assuming you haven't any regard for isk in this matter, 4 (and 3 with better skills) of these will pretty much guarantee to alpha any non-faction fitted Hulk (the best T2 tanked Hulk has about 29k EHP against Republic Fleet EMP ammo, which is what you should use).

Since you won't get any insurance, you're looking at blowing about 62m per Tornado, with perhaps a small return if some of the arties drop (800k each). The faction ammo isnt cheap but you only need 8 rounds per ship per gank :)

Since you're a self-confessed bear, you might want to consider buying BPO's for the Tornado and 1400mm Howitzer Artillery, assuming this is a going to be a long-running project..

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Also if you've got money to burn (which I'm assuming you do) prehaps spring for m2/3 gyros, at least at first and especially if you give things a try before you get all the skills worked up. They're often about the same price as the I's and I'd think overkill is better than no kill.

If you use multiple ships, is it best for everyone to fire, or to have 1 ship try to do the job and just have the other(s) on hand in case the first fails? Does CONCORD react entirely too quickly to try to be cheap and save the potentially extra ships, or do most bots spam warp and you'd risk them getting away trying to re-point them?

Sounds like something perfect to be tested on Sisi.
For bonus points, in ~30minutes you can participate in the Mass Test and earn 2mil SP to be able use a Tornado on there this week. And they only just mirrored the characters from TQ as of a few days ago, so you'll basically have your characters as they are now, rather than as if you'd not been training for the last ~3months.

And yeah, many meta1-4 mods can be found cheaper than meta0, especially with buy orders.

The idea to test everything on Sisi is a great one. Since you will most likely be using two ships, the second one probably does not have to be an expensive Tornado. A Thorax, or hopefully a Catalyst will do and keep it cheap.

Good luck.

Lots of bad advice so far.

Here is what you need to know for sucide ganking a hulk in 0.9

You'll be getting 2 vollies. That's it.

A hulk can posibly tank over 20k.

Use alt with passive targeter and ship scanner is something that looks like np. Maybe a mining frig or cruiser.

Plan on hitting them with friends. This is not a one man job. With that said BC's are a bad choice for this since it will cost you more for 3 bc's then one hulk and yes it could take three of them to pull this off.

Better plan is use destroyers. They are cheap! Bring lots of friends. Six should handle most hulks. Alpha together and it will cost you under 10mil to get em down. Thrasher is a good choice for this. Get use to pluging in thier fits before thrashers all land and alpha as one. See how many you need for every so many health in any give sec. Chose dmg type based on target if you use a ship that has the choice.

If it has orca support to rep it then it's probly not worth the attempt to kill.

It is posible to take down easier targets solo with a destroyer. One mining barge in a 0.7 with a blaster catalyst is about as much as you'll want to deal with solo.

Good luck! Cool
