Looking for a good sci fi read

Hey folks, I recently bought a kindle fire and I'm looking for some good reads.
Ive never read much sci fi and I'm looking for something 'EVE' like. Stations/starships/cloning ect

Check out Alastair Reynolds and Iain M Banks. They're pretty much the two big names in grand spacey stuff at the moment, and usually explore fancy transhuman ideas.

Personally I'm partial to Reynolds, because I find his writing more engaging. Banks tends to present a much thicker hedge of tangents and dense description, while Reynolds paints with broad strokes and impressions.

The Honner Harington novels by David Webber. The Novels might get a bit political but the over all story is great and you see the ship dessiness change over time.

Andre Norton (Humanx Commonwealth\Philip Lynx Novels, Bloodhype), H. Beam Piper (Sword Worlds Novels,Space Vikings), Ursula K. LeGuin (Savage Planet), Larry Niven (Ringworld, etc..)...

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then, and it's a poor sort of memory that only works backward.

I would recommend Ian M. Banks

Start with 'Consider Phlebas' , 'Player of Games' or 'Use of Weapons'.

....as if 10,058 Goon voices cried out and were suddenly silenced.

I think Jack McDevitt rules

Chindi is great in an exploration way but A Talent For War has a fleet warfare theme

I know I may be attacked for this but read the Halo Novels and the Mass Effect Novels. While not every single one of them is all that great (ie. the ones written by William C Dietz) they are fun and great reads. Especially the Halo ones in my opinion. All are professionally written and you can sincerely get into them as you would any other book.

Robert Heinlein Starship Troopers (It's not like the cheesey movie.)
Russell Hoban Riddley Walker OK, not high tech space fleet stuff as requested. Actually it's really low tech, post-apocalyptic. But an amazing story, and worth reading just for the strange dialect it's written in. ('On my naming day when I come 12 I gone front spear and kilt a wyld boar he parbly be the las wyld pig on the Bundel Downs any how there hadnt ben none for a long time befor him no I aint looking to see none agen.')

I'd like to recommend the "Vatta's War" Trilogy, its by Elizabeth Moon and it contains a lot of concepts that relates to EvE. No clones though.

I like Morgan's Kovacs novels, starting with "Altered Carbon." Functional immortality through cloning and consciousness transfer, with a double helping of grits.
