Burst and the missing Dronebay

Hi Folks, Hi DEV´s,

is there any reason why the Burst is missing a Drone Bay, while any other frigate class Mining Ships of Amarr(Tormentor) Gallente (Navitas) or Caldari (Bantam) have a drone bay for 1 light drone?

Dont get me wrong, i dont want every ship to be the same and i love the overall diversity EVE has to offer, but it just makes this ship unusable since it has 0 defense, even ratting in a 1.0 Sec System isnt possible when you are on your own... maybe give it 1 more highslot to fit at least a 125mm Autocannon or give it a 5m³ drone bay aswell.

Oh and before the smart guys tell me "train for amarr, gallente, caldari", thats not a helpful answer at all for new pilots.

Regards and sorry for the bad english.

Well all ships are different thats the main reason, Minmater is also not a drone race.

But your main argument about defences isnt true. In 1.0 and 0.9 there are no belt rats so you can mine without a problem.

ok my bad then about those systems.

As i said its very good that all eve ships are different in many ways, and i am perfectly ok with the minmatar NOT being a drone race, BUT its not ok that this ship is the only one within its role (frigate miner) that has NO defense at all (for mining in systems below 0.9).

EDIT:

Besides, this is one of the most basic (if not THE Basic) activity in EVE, there should not be any differences, especially when only 1 race is affected by this issue.

EDIT2:

Forgot to mention: The differences about the eve ships are following by a simple mechanic -> if it has not what the other ships in its class has, it has something different for compensation, thats called balance. The Burst has nothing to compensate its missing dronebay.

The Burst, Bantam, Navitas, and Tormentor are so seldom used that they are not on any reasonable list of priorities for CCP. The non-top-tier frigates are notoriously unbalanced. Some examples:

  • Velator is far more powerful than the other noobships (because of two drones).
  • Kestrel is far more powerful than Inquisitor or Breacher.
  • Griffin is far more useful in general situations than Vigil or Maulus (and even Crucifier).

This happens in cruisers, too. There are calls for "tiericide" and indications that CCP will rebalance all T1 ships to all be actually useful. Until they do that, don't get your hopes up about frigates or cruisers being balanced. Just crosstrain to the race that has the better ship. It's only a small amount of SP.

The Burst is perfectly viable for highsec ratting. Two 125mm autos and you're set to go.

Nanoquisitor OBJECTS!

(Although the Kestrel IS a better cynoboat, the only realistic application for any of them)

In a game where there are differences in the ships - there are going to be some ships that are worse than others.

Look at the Mining Cruisers, the Osprey and Scythe get bonuses for their mining lasers but the Vexor and Arbitrator only get mining bonuses for their drones. The Vexor at least has 4 turrents but the Arbitrator only has 2. Given that mining drones don't mine nearly as much as the turrets do - the Arbitrator (while a good combat ship) sucks as a Mining Cruiser.

*shrug*

Now - as to saying you should cross train - YES - that is what you should do if you want a better ship. At least with training for a mining frigate you've got just a few minutes training time to get into one - unlike an Amarr who wants to get into an Osprey.

Most junior miners either train for a Bantam and then get into an Osprey - whatever their faction - or they just live with what they've got until they can get into something better. For the Amarr - something better is a mining barge and they're largely stick with their Tormentor until they get one.

So - it could be worse. With the Burst - you can at least just stay in .9 or 1.0 space until you can get in a Scythe.
