To all young players

Well, I started this game in December 2010 and until now I tried all races and ships and now I am with Caldari (for the moment). I play this game without any ambitions to accomplish “epic” deeds, just for fun and to spend some of my free time … I play solo for now, and have been in great corp with my previous character which I terminated when I get bored (my decision).

So, some advice to young players (take or leave it, I don’t care really).

First, don’t take this (or any that is) game too seriously: you’ll be scammed, ganked, pranked, tranked or any other combination which ends with “ed” (you fill the first letters) and you can’t do anything about it. In this game, there are few things which you can’t do or are forbidden to do.

As you know there are two choices – to solo or to be in some corporation. Both choices are with great risk to your “virtual” and real mental health. Forums and chat channels are full with someone complaining about someone do this and that to him and how it’s not fair. I also tried twice complaining, but that’s it. No more, not any use of that. There isn’t such word (fair) in EVE and you should be in peace with that, or you will suffer badly.

Of course, there are players that play EVE solo, but usually they have great experience about EVE world and knowledge how to survive without too many losses. And losses are constant in EVE. No matter how experienced you are, there always will be someone better or some gang which you can’t defeat solo. And there are really small numbers of corps which will treat you with respect and where you can learn and accumulate experience. Good luck with corp choice ...

So, whatever you do, do it with and for fun, learn your skills and try to earn some ISK. This is long term game and you can’t learn or earn anything in short time (except basics). Whatever path you choose, don’t be afraid to change it after some time, if you fill like that. You pay for the game – play it by your rules, not someone else’s.

At the end, do not take this game too seriously and try to have good time. No trolls and no ….ed’s to all of you younger players (olders don’t give a sh … drop[ing] … anyway).

Be well and fly well.

This advice is very solid. You can only limit your losses, not eliminate them!

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Solid advice... but a wee bit too dry and depressing. Toss in some humor and explosions. Everyone likes those!

OP, you kinda come across as a little bitter...

I agree, losses are constant and soloing is very fun, yet often "unfair". However, EvE combat is not necessarily about "fair", it's about getting in the fight. The less people you fly with, the easier it is to get fights, but you'll have more losses as numbers matter in EvE combat.

IMO, the corp you fly with has a HUGE impact on your game experience. Finding the right corp to fly with is the most important choice you make when "integrating" into EvE. The wrong corp will bring you nothing but hardships, but the right corp provides a new group of friends, opens up new opportunities, and truly enriches the entire EvE experience.

Finally, bumps, bruises, and broken bones are a part of EvE.... accept that things will occasionally go horribly wrong, and that's just part of the gaming experience. Pick yourself up, rebuild, and move on. Complaining does nothing; so rather than complain, learn from your misfortunes, or risk remaining a victim.

That is what I said. The hard part is finding the right stuff ... like in RL.

..I like the OP. The message I hear from him is, this is a game. Don't fall in with the fear mongers. If you go into low sec or 0.0, will you be ganked? Yes you will, but it will be more fun then sitting in safe ass hi sec.

Will mining or running missions net you safe profits? Yes, but what the hell are you going to do with those profits?

A great blogger that I read just started playing Eve. http://greedygoblin.blogspot.com/ One of his blogs stated, what is the why of Eve.

For you new players, learning the what of Eve like the back of your hand will improve you as a pod pilot, but learning your WHY of Eve will improve your game experience ten fold. What are you doing in this galaxy? What are your goals, and how the hell do you expect to acomplish them?

Or you can go and be spoon fed the loot piñatas in other MMOs. That epic drop is way cooler then griefing your mortal pod pilot enemy, or taking part in a galactic battle for sovrency.

I see no complaint. What you say is exactly what the OP says, just a little shorter.

Just before I stopped playing, I managed to get a Destroyer. Getting stuff from market and then off I was to pick up the stuff to fit the ship with it. All excited cause finally got a step forward, a small one at that, but a step nonetheless.

So final jump to a space station to pick up last laser and undocked. Spotted a Caldari frigate and was wondering what the hell is that doing here ? Before I got to engage in battle *bang boom crash*. Next thing I knew I was in my pod seeing the debris from my just brand new acquired and fully fitted destroyer flying around. In other words, I was in a 0.4 area and got ganked.

Annoying ? hell yeah!
Part of the game ? Hell yeah!

Was told by real life friend (played since first release) it was a classic gank gang setup. I was just glad it was only a Destroyer I lost and was insured.

Insurance, insurance, insurance
and
updated clones, clones, clones (in case of pod kill) is your best friends.

Two possibilities exists: Either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.
