Gila and Ishtar

Hi all,

when comparing the Ishtar and the Gila (for PvP uses), the Gila seems better in almost every aspect. More tank, speed and drone bay. Granted, it's a pirate faction cruiser so it has to be impressive. But imho a HAC shouldn't stand back that much. Fitting the Ishtar is a true challenge. It's drone range bonus seems like a bad joke since it does not work for sentries which could really benefit from it. So I'm able to send my scout or heavy drones 80km away Big smile

Nevertheless I still think the Ishtar has a handful advantages:

- can be armor tanked quite hefty -> small sig + free med slots for drone mods
- now since blasters have lowered fitting costs it is possible to do some extra damage using medium blasters (Gila doesn't have a damage bonus + HAMs as high damage missiles are situational)
- when nanoed the Ishtar has a bit more speed and agility (at the cost of EHP)
- high kin/therm resists are good against Caldari's preferred missile damage type on most hulls + Minmatar's by default loaded ammo (PP) + all blasters and rails + drones which are used for damage in PvP (Hobgobs, Hammerheads, Ogre)

I want to ask here if I'm just wrong or if there are even more things the Ishtar can do better.

Ishtar has pretty much equal tank because of the smaller sig, has mid slots galore for ewar, while boasting considerably more applied dps with sentries, and a few hundred additional extra from blasters for close range situations.

Also, Gila is ugly Bear

All I ask is that the Ishtar is at least given more CPU than a Vexor... please? Even with the fitting changes to hybrids it still can't fit guns without gimping the entire ship.

This is wrong, for one. Otherwise you're right on most counts. The gila is a better point-blank face tanker if you want to go that way. The ishtar can be faster and more agile than the gila. Ishtar can be used with shield or armor gangs. The ishtar is a better sniper than the gila, however its not compatible with AB-fit zealot sniper gangs, due to sentries being stationary.

Wow that would be good news! But then the bonus description is really misleading:

"Heavy Assault Ship Skill Bonus: +5 km bonus to Scout and Heavy Drone operation range and +50 m3 extra Drone Bay space per level"

it includes sentries. WIth lvl 4 EW Drone Interfacing, and lvl 4 HAC, you can tell sentries to shoot anything you've locked that's within 77km.

The Gila does just as well for PVE atleast vs angels aslong as you spend a little isk.

EVE online is the fishermans friend of MMO's. If it's too hard you are too weak.

Gila needs more CPU to make really awesome fits. The CPU is way to low if you ask me.

But even still I prefer it to the Ishtar, much better tank. Passive and buffer in one just like its bigger brother the Rattlesnake, making it a real freakin hassle to kill one.

Personally, i prefer gila for nano kiting setups with sentries, and ishtar for dual rep close range brawling. The difference for me is that gila can out tank nano cane in a kiting setup, and can fit a cap booster without hurting its tank (comes handy vs curse or when you mess up and get within double neut range of cane). Dual rep ishtar is good because it can do dual injector with scram and web, and its resist is good vs hybrid ships and drakes.

Having used for Gila for PvE and an Ishtar on an alt, i would say that the Gila can support a stronger tank and it can also use 5 heavy drones which is (surprise surprise) the same amount of bandwidth needed to support sentry drones :O Gila's bonus to shield resistances means that you spend less modules on tank so you can add things like points, webs, AB etc. And if fitted correctly, the passive recharge is what makes the majority of shield tanked ships better in the buffer tank role.

Im not saying that the ishtar is not any good, its a brilliant PvP ship in the right hands, but what i am saying is that you will get more bite for your buck with the gila. Only problem is the low CPU, i get around 460 CPU on the gila with my +3% CPU implant. Also dont use missiles on the gila, the range bonus is nice but even with T2 heavys, the DPS really is not worth it. I have 2 NOS's, salvager, tractor beam and a drone control link module in my highs.

I have likes? How the hell did that happen? :D
