Hey, Ive been playing eve for 5-6 years now on a horrible computer/ internet connection and decided its finally time for some changes..

For the first 3 years I was on dial up (Thank god theres high speed now where I live) with a single core 512mb ram computer.. I purchased a new e-machines desktop because my old computer did not support SSE2 and obviously it was barely running the game.

Now Im running into the same old problem again.. I never did get over 12fps on the lowest settings since I started playing EvE but now its around 5fps and soo hard to play. I have 3GB of ddr2 Ram, Dual Processor, and integrated nforce 6150Se.

Problem is I have a micro case .. Even though it has a Pci slot I cannot fit a card in it o.0. Now that I know more about computers
I realize I should not have bought this e-machines computer as its not for gaming and for the same amount of money I could have built 1 much better.

So my question is - is it worth Buying a new case/power supply unit and a graphics card or should I just spend the extra 250-300$ and build myself another computer.. and perhaps sell my e-machine to help pay for the new 1. What would you do?

Any feedback would be helpful,
thanks.

You ain't going to get jack **** for an e-machine...especially one that is that old. For gods sake yes...upgrade. You can build a perfectly good PC for running EvE for $600 or less. Want something better then you will spend more. If EvE is the only game you play...then...I feel for you...but if it is then you can build a cheaper PC.

Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821

Just get a new system. Any $500 box will run EVE just fine.

Make sure you get something that can be upgraded as you see fit.

My system is 5 years old, MB is 1 year old. I just added a Gforce
GTX 550 Ti for $120, because my GTS 8800 packed it in. Lowest
FPS I see is ~35fps in the CQ.

You can buy add on extensions that send the graphics cards sideways so you can use PCI-E or whatever they are, Vid cards in the low profile machines. It's an L bracket shaped thing. Though you need to look at the openings in the back. If they aren't running up and down with the tower, you won't be able to make that work anyway. (The Dell Optiplex machines came with the L Bracket)

That all said you can buy Pentium D Dual core Optiplex machines right now for around $120. They hold 4 GB Ram, usually are a 3.0 GB to 3.4 GB CPU and have the PCI-E slot for graphics. I use a Pentium D 2.8 Acer with a 1GB graphics card and I can run 3 clients of EVE. 4 if all I am doing is sitting in stations checking prices on regional items.

All of what he said.

Yes, buy a new machine.

Get a new machine dude :)

I had 100 fps last I checked, and that is a year old laptop.

For 500 dollars you should be able to get a decent enough box.

I am surprised you can run EVE with nForce 6150. When I built my EVE machine, I went straight for nForce 71xx and that was before CCP made Shader Model 3 mandatory. I am using GeForce 8400 now, run all the video stuff on minimum, I mostly don't need the eye candy.

Anyway.

Buy new computer. There is pretty much no point to upgrade what you got. You can get something new, or you can get something refurbished. You can still get some refurbished Core 2 Duo machines. If that is too dated for you. You can get refurbished current generation i3, i5 and i7 machine, just get one with nVidia or AMD/ATI card, intel HD Graphics are just too weak for gaming.
