hi newbie here wondering if torpedoes lose out a lot on damage fired on a webbed BC?

Somewhat. But it's nothing a target painter or two won't fix.

Not a huge amount. The web will take care of damage mitigation via speed, leaving damage mitigation via sig only. Torp explosion radius is 450 m; a shield-rigged Drake has a sig of 350 m upwards, so you should expect to do at least 75% of your EFT damage. If it has Rage/Fury loaded then it'll have a colossal sig, over 500 m, and you'll do full damage.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Hurricane. Again, web takes care of speed issues, just leaving sig. Shield Cane sig is around 300 m (67%); armour Cane sig is around 240 m (53%). Painter is useful here.

Most PvP canes will be (or should be) armor canes for this reason. A mission cane, OTOH, will quite likely be a shield cane and can have a pretty large sig. My old mission cane had a sig of 340, I think (2x Lg Extenders and 3x Core Def. Shield Ext.). Not sure who you are targeting Big smile.

Last time I tested this I was in a manticore vs s shield tanked cane.
I did about 2200 volley damage with one painter and about 1800 without.

A second painter made no difference for me with most missile skills@4

if you have PyFA it will let you put in target's signature radius so you can find the lost DPS

How much herp could a herp derp derp if a herp derp could herp derp.

Precision torps are awesome for ships smaller than BS. You might do less nominal EFT damage, but you do way more real damage. Also, you get a MUCH longer range.

Although tbh, assuming you have a decent number of bombers (say 5 or more) each with 1 painter painting the same BC, you'll do near-full damage with just about any torp (especially if said BC is webbed).

If its webbed, then no. Majority of BCs running around are tier2's abusing the shield-gank paradigm and with shield extenders + MWD they are moons (even without MWD).

But then again, since there always seems to be a Loki lurking around they'd be sporting a 25-30% sig reduction so bring a painter to make sure.

PS: Did I mention how I consider the current link mechanic broken Smile

Not sure whether it's potatoes or LSD, but you're certainly overdosed on something... P

There's no such thing as precision torps. There's Jav torps, which do have a longer range, but they have the same explosion velocity/radius parameters as T1/faction torps...

Actually, most of the hurricanes that I come across are shield/nano, since it's usually easier to pick & choose engagements with more mobility.

Yeah meant javelins, and yes, I apparently was doing some LSD last night. At least I think it was LSD...

Oh you crazy lowsec people and your nano fits.

But really, most people fly shield canes, even in highsec. It's stupid and they die because they aren't armor fit but they still do it.

You will find shield canes to be one of the most used ships in Eve, and one of the most effective.

Most Canes are nano shield fit. I roll in a brawler armor cane with HG slaves but that's for specific situations.
