I tend to see the destroyer as a backbone for frigate fleets and cheap PvP gangs.
In order to add variety to the destroyer class, you would have to come up with something different to just a ratio of tank/dps.
Perhaps something that gives new players a chance to move cheaply onto some of the more advanced aspects of fleet wars.

Suggestion: Secondary Logistic Destroyers
The idea would be to provide an alternative destroyer that sacrifices DPS for the ability to act as a force multiplier for the small gangs they are typically used with. We have already established that destroyers are just easy targets for Cruiser battles and above, hence their support abilities wouldn't be too overpowering in larger fights. Some of these would require a few extra modules that could be fitted to larger ships, but could be prevented from abuse with CPU bonuses similar to Covert Ops Cloak.

Shield and Armour tanking are of very limited use in Frigate PvP, so each of the destroyers would be filling an unconventional, racial support role. See below for suggested attributes to be supported by Destroyer skill.

Minmatar: Remote Auxiliary Engine Regulators - + 5% maximum velocity per level on targetted ship. Max 1 module per target.
Gallente: Remote Drone link Augmenters - +5% drone damage/tracking+speed/health per level on targetted ship. Max 1 module per target.
Caldari: Remote Signature Masking ECM - -5% sig radius per level on targetted ship. Max 1 module per target.
Amarr: (probably using existing modules) Capacitor Transfer Array - +5% capacitor transferred per level. Max 1 module per target.

Just throwing my two cents in, but along with the suggestion of "some mechanic to detect cloakers", there doesn't seem to be anything that differentiates a second destroyer hull from what we've already got.

Tier 2 dessies that can fit compact citadel torpedoes. Useless vs anything moving but great vs supers and triage/siege caps.

Fact is:
T1 Destroyers are doing a very good job against Frigates. No need to provide more anti-frigate power for that low price.
T2 Destroyers have a role as interdictors and in addtion are even better aginst Frigates then their T1 counterpart. Again, really no need for more dps against small targets.

The only thing which might be open for discussion from my point of view would be a T2 Torpedo Boat Destroyer. Similar to the StealthBomber, a glass canon but with no cloak but twice that torpedo slots instead. So a fleet of these Torpedo Boat destroyers would be a real danger to large ships... if they are not popped in time. This would foster the need for frigate and T1-Dessy support for BS fleets.

EvE is a video game. More ships are always better, and CCP should be adding them, all the time.

Do you really think that in a universe as big as EvE, there are only going to be 4 classes of Assault Ships per race??

Where is the immersion?

In real life, my family and I have built / designed several of our own vehicles from scratch. Why can't I do that in Eve? I want lots and lots of frigates, and destroyers, and all kinds of different ships, and I want to be able to customize them all with different parts, different paint schemes and logo designs, different colour engine trails... EvE is my favourite game ever, but is still far from the Sandbox it could and should be. I think CCP should stop working on stuff like Dust {which I still think is cool} and focus more on making Eve better.

If I could customize a Thrasher I would paint it in Hello Kitty colors. Then I would have 'I love Winmatar' inscribed on one side and 'Liang's Fluffer' on the other. Finally, I would gift it to Naomi.

Adding Hulls is always a good idea!

I really dont see a good reason why there is only 1 version per race for destroyers.

How about giving small gangs some love. New Destroyer t1 hull with different bonuses than damage, some utility like shield transfer and remote armor rep. A t2 variant to this hull could be a like the little brother of the command ships, with limited fleet bonuses to lets say 5 ships.

Although non combat deserves some attention, it should not be with destroyers. It should be some thing for industrial and ORE, instead of a destroyer feat.


why not use the destroyer hull for the industrialist attention? ORE destroyer bonuses,

ORE dessy 1
~mining laser cpu decrease 5% per skill level (or whatever, but not so that it mines more then say a retriever or osprey)

or the hacking ship idea,
~5% (or whatever) to hacking module duration +/- sucess

ship scanner idea,
~ range+acuracy bonus on all types of ship/cargo scanners

anti cloak destroyer ideas
~active ping, like modern sonar, you can ping a system
~acts like a cyno, stops you dead in space lights you up like a cyno
~gives general directions to cloakers, like anom hits on a probe, has a range of say, 10 au, or whatever,
~cycle time of 60 seconds, skillable down to 45 seconds.

~~or could be another probe type, useable on on dessys like the interdiction probes.

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.
