Create a Ubuntu client of EVE Online with co-operation with Canonical. Pretty please.

That's all.

Good luck with that one. I do support it but fix the Mac client first. You probably don't want and Ubuntu client before that anyway.

Linux here. Linux there.
Does Ubuntu wear a red hat?
However you spell it

Why doesn't CCP have a dedicated team to try to program
around the everlasting string of Linux builds?
They probably have work to do.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

CCP had a linux version, but dropped it since 1-2% of the player base actually used it...

A tiny some people owe a Mac.

A little some people owe a PC and run Linux on it.

A huge many people owe computers actually suit for gaming.

Any more questions?

… and it turns out that a lot of people who only used their computer for playing simple games and browsing the web are switching to the iPad.

Does that mean CCP should port EVE Online to the iPad?

in 2003 about 4-5% of computers surfing the web was Mac or Linux, now it is about 14% with a bullet. It might be a good strategy to plan for the future by making EVE run well on *NIX systems.

Dual boot your machine like the rest of us. Linux sucks for games, has always sucked for games, and will always suck for games.

Just because you can play some games on it doesn't mean it's a gaming computer, so no, not really.

That's nice, but since EVE isn't a browser game, that statistic isn't really relevant. You can browse the web with some household appliances these days and almost every handheld, but it doesn't mean it's a good idea to treat it as an indicator where to focus your serious gaming development. The linux support wasn't dropped just because so few people were using it at the time, but because that number wasn't growing, while the mac gamer numbers were. You develop for the systems that can handle your game and the gamers actually use, not for some expensive toys that gamers don't actually use or which can't run the game at a satisfactory level.

Saying Linux has a lot of builds over Windows is like a Christian saying atheism has a lot of denominations.

So you're saying that EVE is a simple game...?

EVE client generally works pretty fine with WINE (often to the point that mac users prefer stock Wine over Cider)

Or, you know, just HTFU and use Wine. I've been playing with wine for over 3 years now, without any major (read: that affect playability in a critical manner) issues.

Stability is great, even when multiboxing, and performance is correct.

Huh? What's your point?

Linux appeals to customers because it provides a hundred ways to answer every question, which is cool, but also makes bloody difficult to make a one-suits-all question. Specially with graphics involved. Linux is a UNIX variation and UNIX relationship with graphics always was, still is and will always be like "AAIIEEEE, THERE'S GRAPHICS ON MY COOODE!!!"

There is a reason why graphic interfaces where created on new languages and not UNIX, and that reason is called UNIX.

Nice catch 22. But I perfectly understand why gamers do stick with windows . It is even recommended by many in the EVE Mac forums. But market data is showing that windows is losing to *NIX. Apple sales are even skyrocketing despite being "expensive".

Maybe game companies need to consider the future and just not only the past.

Windows and Microsoft are crap.

And yes, I have used wine. I have been fighting with Wine tons of hours. Problem is that wine is crap, and always will be crap.

I even created this character two days ago in Crusible client using Wine, and few days later it doesn't even boot up, thanks to new update in Wine. Roll back? Yeah, well, not worth it.

Also, 12.04 will hit the jackpot. Why? Since it pwns Windows.
